Sometime in the night
When its quiet and calm
And all the people have retired
I wander down to the sea

Walking down the sandy shore
Warm sand from the day
Cooling beneath my feet

Inhaling the ocean breeze
Bringing seaweed and dampness
To me

The night stars twinkle
Before fog rolls in
To cover night sky

My thoughts turn
To those across
The sea

Fighting and dying
On foreign soil
It tears my heart
Apart

The refrain from
A song plays in my
Head "war, what is
It good for? Nothing"

Nothing but hurt and pain
And lost lives...of our young

Another generation lost
Amid turmoil and hatred
And again we don't understand
Why? Or perhaps we are told
A different view

It prays on my mind
As my tears fall
To mingle with
Sand

In a weird way
It brings together
Different races
Fighting side by side
Becoming a "fighting" family

And their losses are felt
Deep for they are brothers
And sisters in arms

The sorrow in my
Heart at the losses
Hurts me too

Even though I don't
Know them personally
But they are our
Nations guardians

I send silent thanks
To those still fighting
On foreign land
A prayer of
Come home soon
For you are needed
And loved here too
