I spotted her from across the track as she jogged around the perimeter.  She held her head high with her nose lifted as if to say, “Look at me, I am beautiful.”  She was as beautiful as she moved with a gracefulness that few of us could achieve.  Her feet were perfectly synchronized as if dancing to a silent tune.  Her pace seldom varied.  Her hair swayed softly side-to-side as the rhythm of her body shifted it with every move.  I could see her feet were delicate and slender, making me wonder how they ever held her weight in effortless suspension.

I could see her quickly moving her head left to right as she scanned the area around and in front of her.  I wondered if she was expecting someone or something but I had no way of knowing even as I watched her quiver with unconcealed excitement.

Her eyes were bight and clear even from a distance.  I could see the darkness of her pupils slightly enlarged with her undisguised state of excitement.  I wondered if she was going to meet a lover, a friend or if this was the way she was all the time.

Her lips were parted as she softly huffed while continuing her path around the track.  It was not breathlessness but rather a controlled rate, showing me just how much of a command she had over her body.

She swung in my direction and I gauged the distance it would take me to intercept her.  I wanted desperately to meet her and see if she was as beautiful up close as she was across the distance.  I turned to my left and stretched before setting off in a slow, measured lope intended to cross her path as she rounded the last curve.

I kept my eyes trained on her while also being vigilant to be sure that no one else was moving in on my target.  I lifted my head high and paced myself so that I too looked my best.  I knew my short, dark, curly hair was groomed to look its best.  I had bathed prior to coming to the track and was spritzed with a delicious odor that even I was attracted to.  How could she resist?

I was nearly to her and my heart rate picked up.  I was so energized that my body was quivering so much I knew she must have noticed me.  Ever so slightly, I saw her head turn in my direction as she saw me moving closer.  She hesitated, and then moved forward even faster as I too quickened my steps to intercept her.

We met, stopped and stared deeply into one another’s eyes.  She circled me, checking me out before I felt her bump my shoulder with hers.  I was excited that she had accepted me without a fuss.  I lifted my head higher and turned quickly, circling behind her where I took my first whiff of her unique body scent.  My heart raced as her odor excited me and made me want to race and run with her.  I moved to stand beside her.  As we reached out to touch nose to nose, I heard that silent whistle that called her back to her master.  She turned sharply, running quickly back across the field leaving me standing alone, wondering if we would ever meet again.

The End
