PART ONE

Watching the glistening flesh quiver as she ran her hand in between the slightly shaking breast made an evil smile appear on her face. “You will be mine before the night is through.”

“Please, let me go.” The frighten captive begs as she tries to wiggle her hands out of the knotted rope. “I won’t tell anyone.”

The woman leans over and licks a bead of sweat from the tan skin. “Of course you won’t tell. When I get done with you not only will you worship me I will worship you and your soul will be mine.”

“I…please…I am so scared.” The naked woman whispers.

“That is part of the process.” The predator steps over to a table that holds several clean surgical instruments. Slowly she runs her finger over the tools before she picks up a scalpel. “This will work.”

The glint from the single light bulb hanging over the table makes the scalpel glow as the woman steps back to the tied up woman.

“No, no please…no, no, no, no…I don’t want to die.”

The woman stops. “You may die physically, but spiritually you will soar. You will be my equal. For I have chosen you.”

“I don’t want to be with you.” The woman looks up into blank blue eyes.

The blue eyed woman smiles. “It doesn’t matter what you want. It only matters what I want and I want you.”

The evil woman tenderly runs the scalpel from the middle of the captive woman’s breast. She could feel the energy grow inside her with every inch that was cut. She groans when the blood from the cut drips onto the floor, painting her bare feet.

“Oh, yes, your energy is merging with mine. Soon we will be one. ONE…ONE!” The crazed woman continues her task until the body on the table is open for her to see. “What is hidden from everyone else shall not be hidden to me. It shall merge with me and make us one.”

**********

“Get out of the way you stupid jerk.” The man behind the steering wheel yells as he quickly turns a corner. “I tell you people these days don’t give a rats ass when they see red and blue light flickering behind them.”

“Well partner when said lights are on top of a piece of shit car like this….” The passenger did not get a chance to finish because the driver swerves violently around a pedestrian on a bike. “Watch it shithead.”

“Hey now. Do I call you names when you drive?” Jackson asks as he hits the brakes and turns down an ally.

“Where do you think you are going?” AJ grips the dashboard. “We are going to die.”

“Shut up you aren’t going to die. This is a short cut.” Jackson smiles over to his dark haired partner. “This son of a bitch is ours.”

“No he is not. Look.” AJ points a long finger towards a huge green dumpster that is blocking the ally. “Hit the fucking brakes.”

**********

“So let me see if I got this straight.” Captain Jarvis paces behind the crashed undercover police car and a city dumpster. “You were chasing a suspect and genius over here said he had a shortcut and for some odd reason you two missed seeing this huge ass green dumpster.”

“No we saw it.” AJ shrugs her shoulders. “We just didn’t see it in time to stop.”

“I want you two to get your crazy ass’s back to headquarters. I suggest you get there as fast as you can because if you don’t get out of my sight now I may just kill you and plead insanity.” The Captain’s voice gradually grew higher with each passing word.

“Yes, Sir.” The two Detectives bow and walk backwards until they are out of the Captain’s eyesight.

“You are such a freaking lunatic. You almost got us killed.” AJ slaps the back of Jackson’s head. “Next time. I drive.”

“Do you think the Captain will give us another car?” He asks as he spies a pop machine. “Hey you got any money?”

“AJ digs into her jeans pockets and pulls out a handful. “Sure. Just make sure you get me one too. And it better not be one of those with out caffeine.”

“I know, I know, what is the point of drinking a pop if it doesn’t have any caffeine.” Jackson states as he hit one of the top buttons of the machine. “Go grab us a cab.”

**********

“Paging Doctor Stokes. You are needed in the Emergency room.” The loud speaker boomed waking Erin Stokes out of a deep sleep.

“Shit only three hours. Ian better get me something better than a stupid T-shirt for working all his damn hours.” Erin rubs the sleep out of her eyes.

“Paging Doctor Stokes to the ER. Paging Doctor Stokes to the ER.”

“I’m coming, gesh, give a girl a second to get her head together.” Then she stands and stretches. Several pops are heard. “Oh, that feels great.” Erin grabs her glasses, beeper and stethoscope shoving them into her white medical coat. “Let’s go see what the city has for me tonight.” She opens the door and heads down the hallway to the bustling Emergency Room of County General.

**********

“Where is she? The damn ambulance will be here any second.” Nurse Lawrence mumbles as she sets up the area the new trauma would be pushed into when it arrived.

“I am right here so you can untwist you undies Larry.” Erin winks over to the skinny curly haired woman.

“You know I hate that name.” Nurse Lawrence replies as she slips on a part of eye protective glasses.

Erin nods as she puts on some surgical gloves. “I know. Why do you think I do it?”

“It sure isn’t because you love me.” The nurse shoots back.

Erin closes her eyes and sighs. “Will you ever forgive me for breaking up with you, Jessie?”

“What do you think?” Jessie walks out of the room letting the swinging doors sway back and forth.

“I have got to remember not to play where I work. It just gets me into so much trouble.” Erin mumbles softly to the empty room..

**********

“Well, that was fun.” Erin slouches down into the couch in the doctors’ lounge. “I wish they would make a muzzle for humans. Sometimes they are worse than a rabid dog.”

“Why do you say that?” Doctor Williams asks as he poured himself his tenth cup of coffee of the night.

“You know exactly way I am saying that.” Erin tosses a wad of paper at her friend. “The man they just brought in bit my arm as soon as it got close enough to his mouth. Then when we were cutting his clothes away he peed all over everyone.”

“So that is what the smell is.” Evan Williams sniffed the air.

“Haha, you so not funny. I changed my clothes.” Erin leans her head back and groans. “Two more hours and then I am out of here.”

“Until?” Evan sips his coffee and raises his eyebrow.

Erin covers her face with her hands. “Until three this afternoon, but at least I will be out of here for eight hours.”  She smiles. “Eight glorious hours. Where I can sleep in my own bed under my own covers, in my own house.”

“Sounds like heaven.” Evan stands up and pats Erin on the shoulder as he passes behind her. “Well, I’ll see you around then. I’ll be here until ten tonight so maybe we can grab something to eat.”

“Sounds like a plan Stan.” Erin gives Evan a backward wave.

“See you later gater,” Evan walks out of the room to let Erin have a few minutes of down time by herself. He knew what it was like to work so many hours with out a break and any minute they could find to get their minds and bodies together was a godsend.

PART TWO

“AJ,” Captain Jarvis yells when he sees the Detective walk into the squad room. “Get your partner and get to my office.”

“Yes, Sir.” AJ gives him a salute.

Captain Jarvis points a finger over at her. “Don’t be a smart ass.”

“To late Sir,” AJ smiles before she heads over to the locker room where she knows her partner is hiding as he eats his doughnuts. “Jackson get your butt out here. The Captain wants us in his office now and since it is probably because of the stunt you pulled yesterday. You can go in first and take the brunt of the Captains anger.”

“I though partners were suppose to stick up for one another. “Jackson inquires as he opens the locker room door. “I would stick up for you.”

“That is a bunch of bull and you know it.” AJ flicks off a few sprinkles the fell onto Jackson shirtfront. “Remember how you just happened to catch that cold last year when we drove the car into the lake.”

“Shit, it was all your fault I caught that cold. It was in the middle of winter when you did that.” Jackson slaps her hand away. “I was puking my guts out for days after that stunt.”

“Well, then lets just forget about it and see what the Captain wants.” AJ shrugs her shoulders.

“Lead the way,” Jackson bows slightly.

AJ takes a step before she grabs Jackson by the belt he is wearing and forces him in front of her. “No thanks, I will follow you.”

“What a pal,” Jackson replies with a laugh.

**********

“My gosh what in the hell did the sick son of a bitch do to her?” AJ yells as she shuffles through a stack full of pictures.

“She was cut open and all of her insides were removed. Then put back in with the exception of her heart. That was not recovered. We suspect the killer took it with him.” FBI Agent Roller states from the corner of the room.

“What kind of sick person would do this?” Jackson asks as he tosses the pictures he was looking at onto the Captain’s desk.

“Someone who needs to be caught and put away for a very long time.” Captain Jarvis answers from his large brown chair behind his desk.

“What do you need us to do?” AJ turns her head to look over at the agent. “Why does the FBI need our help?”

“We just want extra eyes on this before the killers gets any more victims.” Roller steps closer to the two Detectives. “You two know this area like the back of your hands and you know a lot of people.”.

“So basically you just need us to talk to the locals for you.” Jackson looks to the Captain.

“It doesn’t matter why they are here. Just as long as this nut case is caught.” He looks to his two officers. “We will cooperate and do what we need to do.”

“Yes Sir,” Jackson and AJ say at the same time.

“Do you have any clue what so ever who this might be?” AJ grabs the file that sat on the corner of the desk.

“No finger prints or foot prints. The only blood we found belongs to the victim.” The FBI Agent reaches into his jacket and pulls out a baggie. “This is all we have that did not belong at the scene.

“What is it?” AJ stands up and steps closer to peek at what is in the baggie. “It’s a name tag.”

“It belongs to a Doctor at County General. A Doctor Erin Stokes.” The Agent informs them. “I want you two to go over there and see what you can find out. Maybe this is a clue that she might be the next victim or possible our murderer.”

**********

“I thought you were suppose to be gone by now?” Evan grabs the pen out of Erin’s hand as he walks by.

“I was,” Erin yawns, “but a car accident with multi victims stopped that from happening.”

“Sorry to hear that,” Evan puts the pen down on the table next to Erin’s paper work. He looks at his watch. “Why don’t you go head for the timeout room and get as much sleep as you can. I will take over your first rounds.”

“You are such a stud,” Erin jumps up and grabs all of her paper work. “Just page me if you need me.” She takes off out of the room.

“You are welcome,” Evan laughs as the door clicks closed.

Several minutes later a knock interrupted Evan and his own paper work. “Come in.”

“Hello, we are looking for a Dr. Erin Stokes. Do you happen to know where she might be?” Jackson asks as he shows Evan his badge.

“What do you need her for?” Evan stands to shake the man’s hand.

Jackson puts his badge back in his pocket and holds out his own hand. “Sorry can’t tell you. We just need to speak to Dr. Stokes.”

“We?” Evan looks around seeing no other person but him and the Detective in the room.

Jackson nods, “yes, my partner is just outside.”

Evan smiles slightly. “Well let me show you were you can find Dr. Stokes.”

“Thank you,” Jackson opens the door and gestures to his partner. “AJ.”

“Hello, I am Detective AJ.” AJ holds out her hand towards Evan.

“Hello, I’m Dr. Williams.” Evan takes a long look at the Detective in front of him. Long silky black hair and ocean blue eyes. Long legs surrounded by dark black jeans with a white button up shirt tucked into the trim waist.

“Do I have something on my shirt?” AJ asks as she looks down to her chest.

Evan blinks and shakes his head. “Huh? What?”

“Do I have something on my shirt?” AJ repeats.

“No, no nothing.” Evan rubs his eyes. “Sorry, tired. Long hours.” He mumbles before he starts down the hallway to where Erin is sleeping.

“Tired my ass. He wants to jump your bones.” Jackson wiggles his eyebrows.

AJ rolls her eyes; “get a life.”

“Why should I when I can live vicariously through you?” Jackson follows Evan.

“You are a dog.” AJ trails behind her partner.

**********

“God damn it, I just got in here.” Erin screams as she wipes the blankets off her tired body.

“Erin, there are two cops out here who want to talk to you.” Evan says as he peeks his head around the door.

“What do they want?” Erin slips on her shoes.

“They won’t tell me.” Evan backs up slowly as his friend steps to the door.

“Fine, where are they?” Erin steps into the brightly-lit hallway and looks around. The sight of a tall brunette standing behind Evan catches the small blond doctor’s eye.

Blue eyes nearly pop out of AJ’s head when Erin appeared. “Sweet Jesus, she is gorgeous.”

“Excuse me?” Jackson laughs.

“I’m Dr. Stokes.” Erin holds out her hand.

“I am Detective Jackson and this is my partner Detective sweet Jesus she’s gorgeous.” Jackson smiles as he watches the blond haired doctor turn several different shades of red. “Sorry, I just had to do it.”

“Jackson you have no manners what so ever.” AJ steps up and offers Erin her hand. “Hello, Doctor, I am Detective AJ. May we talk with you for a few minutes? In private.”

“Sure,” Erin turns and holds the door open to the room she just left. “This is as private as we are going to get.”

“Thanks,” AJ grabs her partners elbow and guides him into the room. “Please forgive my dumb ass partner here. He was raised by a pack of wolves and doesn’t know when to keep his mouth closed.”

“You just wait until I tell Mama. Your ass is grass.” Jackson points a finger at AJ.

Erin closes the door after she thanks Evan. “Okay, now what can I do for you?”

**********

“Is this you name tag?” Jackson asks as he hands Erin a picture.

Erin looks down at the picture, “looks like mine.”

“How many name tags do you have?” AJ questions as she looks around the spars room.

“Well, usually I just have one, but last week I had one taken off my coat so I had to have another one made.” Erin hands Jackson back the picture. “Looks like you guys found my tag. Want to tell me where and does it have to do with why you are questioning me?”

“Where were you from Monday evening to Wednesday morning last week?” Jackson asks.

Erin yawns. “Right here working.”

“You were here every second?” AJ questions as she leans her back against the wall.

“Yes, that is a typical time frame for me these past few weeks. I am helping out another doctor who is on vacation. So not only do I have my usual work I have his as well.” Erin nods her head. “Oh, wait I did run down to Wendy’s for dinner break on Tuesday night.”

“How long did it take you?” Jackson grabs his little notebook from his shirt pocket and begins to write.

“Let see.” Erin thought. “Since it is just on the other side of the street and down the block about fifty yards. Twenty minutes.”

“So you can’t remember any other time you left? Even for just a minute?” Jackson bites the end of his pen.

“Nope that is the only time I left during my shifts.” Erin gestures towards the door. “You can ask the nursing staff.”

“They have the schedule?” AJ steps towards the door.

“No, I should have said you could ask Nurse Lawrence. She is like a dog in heat and knows my every move.” Erin rolls her eyes.

Jackson tilts his head slightly. “Why is that?”

“Because I broke up with her and she isn’t taking it well.” Erin gives him a grin. “I keep forgetting not to date people I work with.”

“That bad?” AJ stops at the door not bothering to open it.

Erin scoots back against the wall and grabs the pillow. She starts to fiddle with the corners of the white pillowcase. “Just because I have Doctor before my name doesn’t make me rich. I work my ass off to get what I do have. Certain people forget that and try to get in good with the doctor. If you get my drift?”.

“Gotcha,” AJ and Jackson say at the same time.

**********

Jackson pulls tan police car in behind a large truck and waits for it to move. He glances at his partner. “What do you think?”

AJ sighs and closes her eyes; “it’s not her.”

Jackson mumbles, “I agree.” He steps on the gas when the truck in front of him starts to finally move. “She is a hottie.”

AJ grabs her sunglasses and places them over her blue eyes. “Shut up and drive dork.”

“As you wish,” Jackson laughs.

**********

PART THREE

“Who is going to be next?” The woman looks left then right. A long legged blonde catches her eye and she knew that this was the one. “You will bring me to greatness as I will do the same for you.”

She follows the woman through the crowed streets until she gets into her car and drives off. “Oh, don’t worry. I’ll find you and bring you to me. We are meant to be one.”

**********

AJ and Jackson were passing bowls back and forth between themselves as an older woman watched with love and care. “You two, don’t eat much when you are on duty do you?”

“Sure we do, but it’s all crap.” Jackson says with a mouth full of homemade mash potatoes. “Nothing beats your cooking.”

“I agree,” AJ mumbles with her own mouth full of food. “The best as usual Mama.”

“Glad you’re enjoying it.” She scoops herself some food before it disappears from sight. “Tell me what cases you two are working.”

“You’re not going to believe this one.” AJ states as she watches her mom raise an eyebrow at her. “We are helping the FBI.”

“Since when do the FBI come looking for help?” Anna shakes her head.

“They need us to do the run around on the local natives.” Jackson answers.

Anna glances from her daughter to the man she thinks of as a son and growls. “They have you two doing their grunt work?” She stands up and grabs an empty bowl. She sets it down on the kitchen counter and scoops more white fluffy potatoes into it. “What’s the case about?”

“Some crazy slicing and dicing woman.” Jackson takes a large drink of his water and pats his stuffed belly. “Mama, thanks again for dinner. As usual it was outstanding.” He stands up and grabs his plate and glass. “I should head on home. Beth will be home in an hour and we haven’t spent anytime together in awhile.”

“Grab that plate in the fridge.” Anna points over to the large white appliance. “It’s dinner for her since you are to lazy to make dinner for her.”

Jackson stops and turns around. “I’m not lazy. I just don’t have any cooking skills what so ever.”

“That’s true, Mama,” AJ laughs. “Remember he is the one who burnt down the kitchen trying to cook that roast for Christmas several years ago.”

“That’s right. I’ve never seen a Santa move so fast in my life.” Anna giggles and shakes her head.

AJ give her Mom a soft nudge, “he only moved that fast because Beth was chasing him with that meat cleaver.”

“Shut up,” Jackson flips AJ off. “Hey, Mama ask AJ about the sweet looking Doctor she saw today.” He gives his partner a wink and walks out the door closing it softly.

Anna slowly turns and without even having to say a word waits for her daughter to spill it.

AJ quickly starts to clear off the table but she can feel her Mom’s eyes staring at her back. “What can I say?” She turns and leans back against the kitchen sink. “This small blonde green eyed Doctor walks out of this room and I immediately stick my big ass foot in my mouth.”

“Go on,” Anna says as she folds her hands together on the table.

AJ lowers her head and takes in a deep breath. “The first thing that pops out of my mouth is ‘sweet Jesus she’s gorgeous’.”

“Good first impression.” Anna tries not laugh, but was unable to stop a small giggle escape. “Tell me why you had to go see her, maybe I can help.”

AJ knew her Mom missed the excitement of working for the force. The daily interaction with different people and never knowing what was behind the corner. It’s a job that’s not for everyone but when it was it was in your blood for life.

“Let me go get the file. I left it in the car.” AJ gave her Mom a smile.

**********

“God it feels good to finally be home.” Erin tosses her keys on a table by her front door. “What to do first?” She asks herself, “shower? Food? Bed?” She catches a glimpse of herself and knows that a shower was indeed the very first thing that needs to be accomplished.

After several minutes Erin shuffles into her small kitchen with over sized socks covering her feet and black boxers with a gray sweatshirt as the rest of her wardrobe. “Now, what do I have for food?”

Erin opens one door after another of her cabinets only finding a box of mac and cheese. “Well, I guess it is better than nothing.” She mumbles as she sets the blue box on the counter and looks for her saucepan to heat up some water.

**********

“You have one hell of a sick mother on your hands.” Anna states as she flips through the pages of the file AJ gave her. “Any clue at all for the reason?”

AJ shakes her head and closes her eyes. “All we have is a name tag that belongs to the doctor.” She yawns loudly and stretches her arms over her head. “No blood except from the victim and no finger prints on the skin. Just a big round zero.”

Anna grabs the photos of the crime scene and with expert eyes take in every spot of the photo. “Is the victim alive when the cuts are made?” She watches her daughter shake her slightly. “Damn, the pain must be excruciating.”

“I don’t even want to imagine.” AJ shivers, “and I don’t want anyone else to imagine either. I hope we catch this guy soon.”

**********

“That should be me walking around without a care in the world. The one with all the friends and the one with the family. I deserve that. Not you,” the crazy voice whispers to no one but an empty car. “Soon, though, I’ll be you and you will be gone. I’ll have what you have and the world will be set right.”

**********

Jackson spots his partner as soon as she steps into the room. “Tell Mama that Beth loved dinner.”

AJ stops at the coffee marker and pours herself and Jackson a cup. “I’ll let her know that her food got you lucky.” She wiggles her eyebrows and grins.

Jackson leans over his desk and takes his cup. “What makes you think I got lucky?”

AJ shrugs her shoulders as she eyes her waiting partner. Then she points towards his neck. “I think it would be the big ass hickey you have on your neck.” She laughs when he quickly pulls his shirt collar up. “The only way that thing is going to hide is if you wear a turtle neck.”

“Gosh damn it, I told her to be nice.” Jackson grumbles.

Captain Jarvis sneezes and coughs as he walks up to his two detectives’ desk. “You two in my office,” he says as he reaches into is pocket for a cough drop.

“What’s up Captain?” AJ asks as she closes the door.

Jarvis looks up from wiping his noise with a Kleenex. “Any thing to report on your new case?”

Jackson shakes his head, “no Sir. Nothing so far.”

“We went and talked to that Doctor whose name tag was found near the body, but she was at work at the time of the killing.” AJ informs her boss. “We’re just going to over the file until something jumps out at us or God for bid the killer strikes again.”

“Okay, do your best,” Captain Jarvis waves them out of his office.

**********

“Hey Gordie,” Erin smiles up at the young man behind the counter. “I’d like a large black coffee and a blueberry muffin.”

Gordie gives Erin a nod and grabs the last muffin out of the basket. “You know Doc, you are the only person I know that comes in here and orders a straight black coffee.”

Erin laughs, “I don’t really like coffee but it seems to be the only thing legal that keeps me moving.” She takes the muffin and takes the plastic wrap off and takes a large bite. “Damn, these are the best muffins.”

“I agree,” Gordie states as he sets down the large cup of coffee. “I’ll tell Dad that he has your stamp of approval.” He rings up her total. “As you know, $3.35.”

“You do that,” she hands him a five dollar bill. “Keep the change and I’ll see you tomorrow.”

**********

As the days went by without any clues to who the serial is. AJ and Jackson decided to drive around the crime scenes and see if by some slim chance a clue might have been missed.

“This is the one where that Doc’s badge was found.” Jackson says as he looks back and forth on the ground.

“What do you think about that?” AJ asks as she looks through some old trash that someone dumped. “Was it accidental or on purpose?”

“Well sine no other clue has been found.” Jackson glances over to his partner. “It was on purpose. I think some how your pretty Doc is involved.”

“How?” AJ flips her sunglasses off her face and drapes them over her shirt collar. She was working.”

“I know I just haven’t figured out that part yet, but it’s the only lead we have.”

**********

Insane blue eyes dance with happiness as they settle on the long legged blonde she had finally found again. Her eyes never leave the woman as she passes within inches. She smiles back at the little grin the woman gives her. “I knew you would be happy to be mine.”

**********

“Don’t you get enough of this place?” A small dark haired nurse asks Erin when she strolled into the ER.

“This place is in my blood” Erin stops and gives the smaller woman a hug. “You should know that by now.”

“True, and that ain’t right girl. You need a life outside this place.” Marie cups the blonde doctor’s face. “You need someone to take care of you.”

“Someday I will find that someone, but until then.” Erin waves her arms around in different directions. “This is where I am to be.”

“I’m gonna find you someone. My sister might know someone who is single.” Marie starts to walk over to the phone on the nurse’s desk. “Give me two seconds and I will have you a hot date for tonight.”

“Marie, please don’t.” Erin quickly grabs a hold of the receiver and hangs up the phone. “The time you and Teresa set me up I was nearly killed.”

“Don’t you think that is exaggerating a bit?” The small nurse looks to her friend with laughing brown eyes. “It wasn’t her fault her cars breaks broke and you two ended up in a pond.”

“Hell yes it was.” Erin pokes Marie. “If she hadn’t been trying to get my shirt off she wouldn’t have forgotten to put the car in park. Then she steps on the gas with her foot as she tried to launch herself at me.”

“Who knew such a sweet innocent looking girl could be so wild.” Marie wiggles her eyebrows. “You must be off the scales then.”

“Hardy har har,” Erin drops into the brown seat behind the desk. “Anything exciting happening here today?”

“No, and someday I will find out how much of a wild cat you really are.” Marie leans against the desktop. “Nurse Larry just makes up some tail of you and lots of leather and stuff.”

Erin closes her eyes and shakes her head. “Unbelievable.”

Marie couldn’t wait two seconds and she had to know the truth. “So, do you?”

Erin opens her eyes and looks over to her friend. “Do I what?”

“Have stuff?” Marie smiles and waits.

“Of course I have stuff.” Erin grins evilly.

Marie leans in closer. “What kind of stuff?”

Erin slowly looks around to make sure no one is listening. She watches Marie do the same before looking right into her eyes. “Well, I have lots of different kind of stuff. Stuff used for different purposes.”

“Like?” Marie goads Erin to continue.

“Like….” Erin makes a show of looking around once more. “Well I have a bed.”

“And?’ Marie moves closer so she doesn’t miss a thing.

Erin scoots her chair over so she can whisper. “A dresser, TV, couch…”

Marie pushes Erin away. “You bitch.”

“Gotcha,” Erin laughs when Marie flips her off. “Do you honestly think I have stuff like that?”

Marie nods her head. “It’s always the innocent ones that are really kinky.”

“Ohh brother,” Erin lays her head in the desk and laughs.

**********

“I so wanted to keep you around longer, but you had to fight me. You had to argue and make me mad.” The killer glares down at her victim. She raises the scalpel and cuts through the first layer of skin. Small drops of blood mix with the sweat as it leaves trails and pools under the soon to be dead woman.

“You will burn in hell.” The victim mumbles as saliva and blood bubble out of her mouth.

The insane killer giggles, “what makes you think I’m not already there?”

**********

PART FOUR

“We have another victim,” Captain Jarvis yells out before he even has his door all the way open.

AJ stands up from her desk and closes a file she was looking at. “Fuck a duck. Where at?”

“Down by the river. Just past the old winery.” Jarvis watches his detectives grab their coats.

Jackson flips his baseball hat on his head. “They sure it’s our serial killer?”

Jarvis nods his head; “the body has been skinned from head to toe.”

“Damn,” AJ and Jackson both mumble as they dash out the door to their car.

**********

“I don’t understand how anyone can get pleasure from this.” AJ gasps as the smell of the rotting body.

Jackson is not fairing much better as he walks around the crime scene with his hat over his mouth and nose. Something shiny catches his eye and he bends over for a better look. “Hey, AJ I found something.”

“Whatcha got?” She response as she moves out of the way of the coroner.

“Look like we need to make another journey to the hospital and have a talk with the blonde doctor.” He raises his hand holding a stethoscope up. “It has the inscription, ‘To Our Loving Daughter Erin. Mom and Dad.”

“Bag it and let’s head over there.” AJ pulls out a baggie from her pocket and opens it so her partner can drop it in.

As the two detectives walk to their car the FBI pulls up. AJ and Jackson stop and wait.

“Little slow tonight,” Jackson tosses at the finely dressed men. “Everything is about done.”

“No one bothered to give us a call.” Agent Roller says as soon as he closes the car door. “Tell me what we got.”

“Woman around the age of thirty.” AJ replies, “though the coroner wasn’t too sure on that. Said he had to wait until he did some test.”

“Why is that?” Roller questions as he starts towards the crime scene.

“She was skinned,” AJ and Jackson say at the same time. “Our killer is getting more outrageous with what he is doing.”

“Damn,” the FBI agent mumbles through clenched teeth.

**********

AJ glances around the ER parking lot trying to figure out what was wrong. She had this feeling of being watched. Slowly she moves her eyes across all the parked cars with nothing suspicious popping out at her.

“What’s wrong?” Jackson asks as he steps up to stand next to his friend.

AJ doesn’t answer right away until she is sure she can’t see anything. “Someone is watching us.”

“Think it might be the killer?” He takes a quick look around to see if he spots anything out of the ordinary.

AJ shrugs her shoulders. “Not sure.” She turns around and heads for the double doors of the ER. “Lets go question our little doctor again.”

“Right behind you,” Jackson follows but not before taking one last look around.

“We’re looking for Dr. Stokes.” AJ says to a male nurse who was talking on the phone.

He waves a finger in the air for them to wait and continues on talking about his date he had last night. The two detectives pulled out their badges and stuck them under his nose.

“Dr. Stokes, where is she?” Jackson voice told the nurse that he better answer.

The nurse pointed to the doors they had just walked through. “She is out there eating her dinner. Look to the right and you will see a small picnic table.”

“We were just out there and didn’t see her.” AJ replies with a growl. “Do you think you could page her?”

“Hold on,” the male nurse said goodbye to whoever he was talking to and quickly sent a page over the intercom. “If she is in the building or close by she will hear it and come to the ER. Why don’t you take a seat.” He points to the rows of old leather seat in the waiting room. “I’ll tell her where you are when she shows up.”

“Thanks,” Jackson snaps. “You’ve been so much help.”

The two detectives’ head towards the waiting lounge when Dr. Stokes walks in covered in what looks to be blood.

“What the hell?” AJ gasps at the site.
