PART FOUR
“Could this day get any worse?” Erin mumbles looking at herself.
“Get your hands up,” AJ orders pulling her gun from its holster.
Jackson follows his partner’s lead and pulls out his gun as well. “Now, Dr. Stokes.” He yells out when Erin just stands there with a dumb founded look on her face.
“What? Why?” Erin takes a step. “You two drunk or something?”
“I said put your hands up or we will have to use force.” AJ tightens her hold on her gun. She has yet to use it on anyone but that won’t stop her from doing so.
Slowly Erin lifts her hands over her head. “You want to tell me why you two are pulling your guns and ordering me around like some criminal?”
“Well, let’s see.” AJ grabs the Doctors left wrist and forces her up against the wall. She takes out a pair of handcuffs and quickly reaches for the other wrist. “You are covered in blood.”
“You idiot, this isn’t blood.” Erin twists around and faces the tall detective. “Some jerk walked by me and sprays me.” She sticks out her tongue and licks off a drip that was dripping down her face. “Strawberry syrup is my guess.”
“Huh?” Jackson and AJ response as they look from each other back to the handcuffed doctor.
Erin lifts her elbow in their direction. “Taste.”
AJ shrugs her shoulders and swipes a finger down Erin’s cheek. She looks closely at her now red covered finger. “Doesn’t look like blood.” She sniffs it. “Doesn’t smell like blood either.”
“Taste it,” Erin encourages the Detective. Seeing that AJ was reluctant, Erin grins. “I dare you.”
Not one to back down from a dare even if it could cause her bodily harm AJ sticks her finger in her mouth. An intense strawberry flavor filled her senses. “You’re right; it’s some kind of strawberry syrup.”
“No shit Sherlock.” Erin turns around and wiggles her hands. “Want to let me loose.”
“How the hell did you get this stuff all over you?” Jackson questions as he takes AJ’s cuff keys.
Erin rubs her wrists when they are finally set free from the cuffs. She begins to walk down the hallway to the doctor’s lounge. “I was sitting outside looking up at the sky wishing I could see some stars when out of no where a bucket of this stuff is tossed on me.”
“Did you get a look at who did it?” AJ steps up next to the small blonde doctor. She watches as a small drop of syrup slowly drips down Erin’s cheek. She holds herself back from sticking out her tongue and licking the sticky substance off the beautiful woman.
Erin stops walking when she reaches the door marked private. “No, all I saw was red.” She says and holds up her hands. “I really need a shower.”
“Go ahead we’ll wait.” Jackson goes to open the door. “We’ll be in the waiting room.”
“You’re here to see me, why?” Erin looks from one detective to the other.
“This may take sometime.” AJ starts down the hall. “Go take your shower and we’ll fill you in when you’re done.”
*********************
AJ stands in the doorway looking at the shut door that Erin went in several long minutes ago. “What is taking her so long?”
“Give her a break; she had syrup in places that stuff shouldn’t be in.” Jackson replies as he flips through an old magazine.
“You want some coffee?” AJ asks.
“No, but I can tell you do.” Jackson sniffs a piece of paper before he rubs it against his face.
AJ catches him, closes her eyes, and shakes her head. “You are so lucky Linda loves you, because you are such a dork.”
“What? Why?”
AJ laughs and starts down the hall. “Thank God I don’t sleep with men. It would drive me insane.” She steps up to the nurse’s desk. The male nurse is still there and has not hung up the phone. “Got any coffee around here?”
He points to the room Erin was in. “It’s the only coffee around here that won’t kill you where you stand.”
“Thanks,” AJ knocks before she pushes the door open. Not seeing anyone, but hearing a shower from a partially closed door across the room she steps in. She sees the coffee maker against the wall next to the door. “Smells like it’s freshly brewed.”
As AJ adds several packages of sugar, she catches a glimpse of the shower stall from the small opening in the door. She can see a clear outline of the small doctor. “Damn,” the brunette states aloud. She watches as the woman in the shower runs her hands over her body slowly washing herself. “To be those hands on that body.”
AJ nearly drops her coffee all over the place when Erin raises one leg to the side of the tub so she could wash her legs and feet. The sight of the woman’s butt pressing against the clear glass made AJ’s insides melt. “I am going to die.”
“Hey, AJ. I changed my mind. Grab me a cup will you?”
Jackson’s voice slams AJ back to reality. “I need a girlfriend so I can get laid.” She mumbles as she quickly grabs Jackson a black cup of coffee. She takes one final look before she rushes out the door to her waiting partner.
*********************
Jackson spies AJ as soon as she steps out of the room. The flushed look and shaking hand made him concerned. He walks over; “You okay?”
“Huh,” AJ coughs and gets her mind back on the job and not the naked woman showering in the next room. “Fine, I’m just fine.”
Jackson takes his cup of coffee but doesn’t take his inquisitive eyes off his friend and partner. “Sure you are. That’s why your hands are shaking like a leaf and your face is slightly reddish.”
“Drink your coffee. I’m going to step outside for a few minutes.” AJ starts for the sliding doors of the ER. “When our sticky Doctor shows up, just yell.”
*********************
Erin steps out of the shower and grabs her towel. She quickly dries off her hair and wipes off her body. Not bothering to put on underwear or a bra, she slips on a pair of green scrubs.
Carefully she picks up the ruined clothing she had on earlier and tosses them in the trash. “Glad I didn’t wear my favorite sweatshirt.” Looking at her shoes she dumped them in the same trash as her clothes and slipped on a pair of green feet covers surgeon wore over their shoes. “Thank God my shift is over within an hour.”
Opening the door, she looks around and spots Jackson sipping his hot coffee and talking to the male nurse. “Okay, what did you want to talk to me about?”
Jackson takes a long look at the small doctor. “Let me yell for my partner. We have some question for you.”
“I’ll wait here.” Erin steps behind the desk and makes the nurse get up.
*********************
AJ has her back against the hospitals wall with her eyes closed. The night breeze cooled down her skin but not her libido. She could feel the increasing wet spot in her pants. “I need to get that picture out of my head.”
“What picture?” Jackson asks as he moves next to his partner.
Not hearing him come next to her AJ jumped several inches off the ground. “You asshole.”
“What?” Jackson shrugs his shoulders. “You wanted me to come tell you when the Doc was ready.”
“I said yell at me, not scare the shit out of me.” AJ smacks him on the arm. “Is she ready?”
“Yep, she’s waiting for us.” Jackson smiles. “You going to tell me what picture you have in your mind that you so desperately need to get rid of?”
“Shut up,” AJ walks past the grinning man. “Let’s go get some answers.”
*********************
“I really don’t like how you two are questioning me.” Erin stands up and points a finger at the two detectives. “You think I am the one killing all these women. That would explain why you are here asking me where I was and why are my things by the victims.”
“Listen Doctor.” AJ holds up her hands in front of her body. “You have to look at it from our point of view. At two scenes we find objects that belong to you.”
“You idiot, I am a doctor who uses her skills to save lives. Not take them.” She jabs AJ in the chest. “Did it ever cross your mind that my things might have been left there as a set up?”
AJ drops her hands and slowly looks over at her partner. “No, we never did.”
“Oh Fuck,” Jackson mumbles as he runs his hands through his hair. “We never looked at it like that.”
“Well, maybe you should.” Erin stomps back to her chair. “I can account for every single minute of my time. Hell I bet security has tapes and times for you.”
AJ’s eyes close as she tries to wrap her mind around the new angle that for some reason they never thought of.
“I have no excuse to give you.” Jackson rubs his eyes, as he suddenly feels very tired. “This killer has thrown us for a loop.”
Erin nods her head and sits back down in her chair. “Now my only question for you is.” She waits until AJ is looking directly at her. “Why?”
“Why what?” AJ scrunches her eyebrows together.
Erin lends forward and rests her elbows on her knees. “Why is this killer using my stuff to throw you off?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I can’t believe my luck.” The killer brushes her fingers through the short brown hair. “I wasn’t expecting my next one to come to me so quickly.”
“Your next what?” The shaking woman asked as she tries to break her hands free.
The killer laughs, “why my next victim of course.” She reaches into her bag and pulls out a scalpel. She uses the light from a lamppost to get a good look at her instrument. “You will make a grand addition to my collection and you will be helping me in my plan to get the life that was stolen from me.”
Hoping if she kept the crazed woman talking until she could figure out a way to get herself free, the woman asked, “How was your life stolen from you?”
The killer gazed down at the beautiful woman with her fiery blue eyes. “The life that my sister is living. It should be my life, but instead my whole family thinks I am dead.”
“Why do they think you’re dead?” The woman asks as one of her hands slip free, but not breaking eye contact with the insane blue.
“Because my sister tried to kill me.” The killer began to pace back and forth. “She just left me to drown. She didn’t try to save me.”
“How could a sister do that to her own flesh and blood?” The woman moves her eyes around trying to spot something she could use as a weapon.
“That’s what I want to know, but” the killer stops and points her scalpel at the woman. “She will soon be dead and I will take her place and no one will know the difference.”
“Why don’t you just kill her?” The scared woman spots a large piece of board on the ground a few feet away from where she is tied down.
“Because, she won’t be dead in the literal sense.” The killer smiles down at the woman. “She’ll be in jail sitting on death row waiting to die.”
The crazed killer fidgets with her instrument as she moves in closer and closer. “It’s time for you to be her next victim and my new addition.”
“Noooo..” the woman screams out and punches the other woman in the face. She watches as the killer hits her head on a rock. The killer doesn’t move. The scalpel falls next to the woman’s free hand and she quickly grabs it up and starts to cut herself free.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“We got a patient coming in. Will be here in about five minutes.” A nurse yells out to the ER so they can get ready for the trauma victim.
Erin steps out from behind a curtain. “Any clue what kind of trauma she has?”
“All I know is some truck driver spotted her walking down the road.” The nurse replies as she heads to a trauma bay.
“Thanks, Daphne,” Erin sets down the files she had in her hand and fills in as much as she can until the ambulance arrived.
Not even five minutes later two paramedics’ roll in with a woman wrapped up in a white sheet with her eyes closed.
“What do we have?” Erin questions as she steps up next to the gurney.
“Female, 32, white, no apparent trauma but the rope burns on her wrists and ankles.” One of the paramedics rattles off as they roll down the hallway to the designated trauma bay.
"Get her blood pressure, temp, pulse. Start an IV in case we need a line. Get x-ray here and let's check her chest. Call EKG and get me a tracing." Erin directs as she pulls out her stethoscope while rushing behind the stretcher. As the stretcher comes to a stop, she leans over the patients and asks, "Do you hurt anywhere specific?" She listens to the woman's heartbeat and then palpates her stomach with her fingers to see if there is any tenderness in her abdomen.
“It’s just my hands and feet that hurt.” The woman whispers as she opens her eyes. The brightness of the lights makes her instantly close them again, but after blinking a few times she is able to keep the open.
The sight of the small blonde makes her heart beat faster and she screams at the top of her lungs. “No, get away from me. Someone save me. She’s going to kill me for sure this time.”
Erin jumps back and holds her hands up. “Calm down. No one here is going to hurt you.” She takes a step forward. “Let us help get you cleaned up.”
“Don’t you come near me.” The woman tries to get off the stretcher but several hands hold her down. “Can’t you assholes see? It’s her. She is the one.”
“The one what?” A nurse questions as she tried to hold the woman’s legs down.
The frightened woman tugs and twists trying to get free. “She is the person who tried to kill me. Someone grab her and call the cops.”
Erin’s mind twirls with confusion. She couldn’t understand why this woman would accuse her of doing that. Without looking back, she made her way out of the trauma bay and towards the doors to the ER.

PART FIVE
Agent Roller walks into the ER and looks around at all the chaos. He spots AJ and Jackson leaning against the wall talking softly to each other and heads towards them. “Where is she?”
“Who?” Jackson asks the FBI agent before he takes a sip of his coffee.
“The victim,” Roller glares at the detective. “When will we be able to get in there and talk with her?”
“Not sure yet. We’re waiting on the thumbs up from her doctor.” AJ looks down the hall hoping to catch a glimpse of Erin. “Should be anytime now.”
“Damn it we should be in there right now getting her to talk about what happened.” Roller slaps the wall. “She may forget something if we don’t.”
“I know we need to catch this sick son of a bitch, but putting added stress on a victim is not the way to go about it.” AJ snaps back not breaking the eye contact with the agent.
A nurse steps out of a room and looks around until she sees AJ. She quietly moves around all the people mulling around. “Excuse me.” She looks up at the tired looking detective. “Are you AJ?”
“Yes,” AJ nods her head. “What can I do for you?”
The nurse blinks her eyes, “Can I talk to you for a second?” She looks from Jackson to Roller. “In private?”
“Sure,” she shrugs her shoulders when she gets a questioning look from her partner. “I’ll be right back and don’t go in without me.”
*******************
The nurse walks down the hallway towards the nurse’s lounge. She opens the door and looks in. Seeing that no one is around she waits for the Detective to enter before she closes the door. “I thought you would want to know that the victim freaked out when Dr. Stokes tried to evaluate her injuries.”
“What do you mean freaked out?” AJ looks at the nurse. She remembers her from the first night she questioned the blonde Doctor and also remembers what the Doctor said about the nurse.
“She went into hysterics when she caught a glimpse of Dr. Stokes. We had to restrain her and give her a sedative.” Nurse Lawrence’s voice rose higher with each word. “She accused Dr. Stokes of being her abductor.”
“Where is Dr. Stokes now?” AJ opens the door.
Nurse Lawrence shrugs her shoulders. “Don’t have a clue. As soon as she was accused she ran.”
AJ lets the door close without any response and heads towards Jackson. She waves at him to follow her.
“What’s up?” Jackson asks as soon as the two step outside.
AJ runs her hands through her hair and looks around. “The victim said Erin is the one who abducted her.” She looks her partner straight in the eyes. “I don’t care what she said. I know deep in the pit of my stomach that she is not who we are looking for.”
“What are we going to do?” Jackson walks over to their car and leans against the driver’s side door. “The Feds are going to go nuts after they talk to the victim. They will hunt Dr. Stokes down until they prove to themselves she isn’t the one.”
“I know. They’re just out to nail this on the first person they can.” AJ stands in front of Jackson. “We need to find Erin and talk to her. See what she has to say.”
“Any clue where she might be?” Jackson reaches in his coat pocket for a piece of gum.
“I’m right here,” A soft voice is heard from behind some bushes.
“Dr. Stokes?” AJ steps up the curb and slowly makes her way around a large bush. She sees the small Doctor sitting on a bench staring off into space.
“I know the evidence says I am the killer. Hell, if I was on the other side, I would find myself guilty.” She turns her head and with confused, sad eyes she looks at AJ. “I didn’t kill those other women. I didn’t try to kill the woman in there.”
AJ sits down next to Erin and rests a hand on her leg. “We know you’re not the killer. We just have to figure out what to do until the real one is found.”
All of a sudden TV and newspaper reporters swamp the entire parking lot of the hospital. Lights from three helicopters swish by illuminating the area.
“I think we need to find a place to hide you until we can think of what to do.” Jackson mumbles as he watches all the activity.
The three sat there thinking.
Suddenly AJ stands up and reaches for Erin’s hand. “I have the perfect place.”
“Where at?” Erin asks curiously.
AJ smiles, “My mom’s house.”
*******************
Anna glances from her daughter to the small blonde who sat next to her on the couch. “Are you sure this is the safest place to keep her?”
AJ let a smile cross her face. “Mom, your house is always the safest place.”
Anna nods her head, “Okay. Put her in your old room.”
AJ stands up and holds out her hand for Erin to take it. “Come on, I’ll show you where everything is.”
Erin silently grasps the strong hand in front of her. She doesn’t say a word as she follows the tall detective to staircase.
Jackson walks in front the kitchen. “I just called the Captain.”
“What did you tell him?” Anna questions as she sips her tea.
Jackson sighs, “I had to tell him the truth.”
Anna waits for her daughter’s trusted friend to continue.
“He agreed with what we did, but,” he scratches the back of his neck. “He will say he didn’t know a thing about it.”
“What did he say you two should do?” Anna stands up and head for the kitchen. “Unofficially anyway.”
“Unofficially, we need to move our asses and catch the sick bastard.” Jackson sat slowly down in a chair. “I get this feeling that Dr. Stokes is the main clue to us finding who the killer is.”
“I agree,” AJ moves into the kitchen and leans against the counter.
Anna wipes her hands off on a towel. “What does your gut say about her? I mean all the clues do point to her.” She steps towards the refrigerator. “Her ID and stethoscope were found at the murder scene.” She reaches inside and pulls out several already made sandwiches.
“Circumstantial evidence.” AJ states tiredly. “They could have been taken by anyone who works with or around Erin.”
“Is she sleeping?” Anna gestures with her head towards the upstairs.
AJ shakes her head, “No. She is laying down though.”
“Has she said anything about who she might think it is?” Jackson smiles at Anna as he takes one of the ham and swiss.
AJ takes one of the sandwiches as well. “No, she has barely said ten words.” She looks at Jackson. “You know that is a shock considering the last few times we have talked to her she wouldn’t shut up.”
“True,” Jackson mumbles around a mouth full of food. “You staying here?”
“Yes, I want to make sure if she thinks of anyone who would frame her I’ll be here.” AJ shoves the last bit in her mouth and smiles when her Mom gives her a glass of milk. “Thanks.”
Anna pats her daughter on the shoulder. “Guess I should get the couch made up for you.”
“No need to do that.” The tall brunette replies. “I can do it.”
“Sit, eat another sandwich.” Anna walks into the hallway towards the stairs. “It won’t take me but a few seconds to do it.”
*******************
Erin’s thoughts went to the victims that have been killed. She didn’t know any of them so she couldn’t understand why she was being set up. “Who have I pissed off so much that they would kill? Then frame me for it.”
The sounds of the city night filters in through the partially opened window. Slowly she sits up and stares out at the lights. An airplane’s red light blinks up in the sky, taking its passengers off to someplace she wished she were at, at the moment.
Carefully she opened the window all the way and shivered slightly as a cool breeze brushes against her body. “You’re out there. Somewhere trying to hurt me as you kill innocent people.” She closes her eyes and feels her hair wave in the wind. “Why don’t you come for me instead?” Opening her eyes and not caring if anyone around was asleep she yells out. “WHY DON’T YOU COME FOR ME!”
*******************
The three occupants downstairs bolt up the steps as fast as they could go. AJ being the quickest flings the door open to the bedroom. “Erin what…” She didn’t finish her question. She saw Erin standing in front of the window crying and mumbling, “Come for me,” over and over again and she knew what was going on. With sure steps she wraps her strong arms around the distraught woman. She holds her up against her body hoping that some how she could give the small doctor some of her strength.
Anna and Jackson nod their heads and quietly back out of the room. They knew AJ had everything in hand and if they were needed she would give them a yell.
*******************
The next morning Erin finds herself on the floor with an arm draped across her waist. Knowing whom it is a small smile forms as she turns onto her back. She can see AJ sound asleep with her head lying on a blanket that was pulled off of the bed the night before.
Finally getting a chance to see the detective’s face unguarded, Erin took full advantage. She knew the woman was beautiful before, but seeing her like this made her heart stop and then start to only beat faster then it ever has in its life.
Unbeknownst to Erin, AJ was wide-awake. She has been for a while now, but she didn’t want to get up, as she didn’t want to release the smaller woman. She could feel eyes scanning her facial features and just the slightest touch of fingertips caress her slightly parted lips.
The two, so deeply involved with just themselves, did not hear the door open with a creak. Anna looks at the bed then to the floor to where she sees two sets of feet entwined together. With a smile she retreats back and closes the door.
Unable to keep her eyes closed any longer. AJ blinks them open and instantly hers meets soft green ones. “Morning.”
Erin, not feeling embarrassed by her actions, gives AJ a grin.
“How are you feeling?” AJ asks as she smiles back.
“Scared, unsure, and safe.” Erin replies. She traces the tip of her finger over AJ’s dark eyebrows.
“Safe?” Questions AJ as her body starts to react to the soft touches.
Erin nods her head. “I know someone is out there who is insane and some how I’m involved, but right now, at this very moment, I feel the safest I have ever felt.”
The tall detective leans in and places a butterfly kiss on Erin’s lips. “Thank you, but….”
Erin doesn’t let her finish the sentence. She brings their lips back together as her fingers grasp at AJ’s shirt collar. “I know this is the wrong time and place for this, but I don’t care.”
AJ groans, “I wasn’t going to say this is wrong. Though we should go slow, because I don’t think sex is a casual thing.” She places a kiss one Erin’s mouth and continues. “And I think it would be best if we got off the floor. My back is killing me.”
“Damn, I’m sorry.” Erin quickly stands up and offers AJ her hand. “I do think you are right.” She looks down at her feet then up to AJ’s blue eyes. “Slow would be a good thing, considering everything that is going on.”
AJ reaches over and grasps Erin’s hand. “How about we head down for some breakfast?”
“Sounds like a good idea.” The small doctor answers before she steps on her tiptoes and kisses AJ softly.
*******************
In a car parked in front of Anna’s house a silent figure glares up to the open window. The figure sees Erin and AJ have an intimate kiss. “You will not be happy for long. I will make you regret ever letting me die.”
The car engine starts and the car slowly pulls out onto the street and heads down the road.
*******************
PART SIX
“I still don’t understand why the victim would say I look just like the killer?” Erin paces the living room as AJ and her Mom watch. “I just don’t get it.”
“To bad you don’t have an evil twin or something.” AJ says off handedly.
Erin stops and slowly turns to face AJ and Anna. “What did you say?”
“To bad you don’t have an evil twin.” AJ repeats.
“No,” Erin slouches down onto the couch. She rubs her face and looks right into AJ’s eyes.
“Do you?” The Detective asks, as she understands what Erin is thinking. “You have a twin?”
“Had.” Erin leans back and grabs a pillow. She hugs it to her chest. “We were on a hiking trip and the weather was horrid. We needed to pass over a rickety old bridge to get to a cabin. She was behind me when I heard her scream. When I turned around she wasn’t there.” Erin sighs. “The boards under her gave way and she fell into the river. When I finally got help all they could find was her backpack.”
“They never found a body?” Anna stands up and pours Erin a cup of tea from the canister on the table. Going to sit by the stunned blonde she offers the drink.
Erin reaches out with shaky hands to grab the cup, but quickly sets it down afraid she’ll drop the cup. “No, nothing. Only her backpack.”
The room is silent as each woman wonders if maybe by some chance Erin’s sister had survived and is now wrecking havoc on her twin’s life.
“What was your sister name?” AJ grabs her pen and some paper.
“Erika Stokes.” Erin tightens her hold on the pillow in her hands. “We looked exactly alike, except her eyes are blue.”
“Okay,” Anna moves closer to Erin and pats her knee. “AJ, why don’t you call Jackson and let him in on this new development.”
AJ nods and stands up to use her cell phone in the other room.
Erin and Anna both watch AJ quickly walk into the other room.
“She’s dead though.” Erin mumbles as she looks to Anna. “If she isn’t dead why didn’t she come home? Why didn’t who ever found her let us know?”
Anna leans over and gives the upset doctor a hug. “Let’s not jump all over the place. We don’t even know yet.”
Erin jumps up out of Anna’s arms. “What else could it be?” She starts to wave her hands around. “My things show up at the crime scenes. The only surviving victim sees me and goes ape shit.” Erin stops moving and slouches down in the chair that AJ was sitting in. “Or maybe I am the killer and I just black out when it happens.”
Anna gets up off the couch and makes her way over to the distraught woman. “No way could you be the killer. I’ve only known you for a short time and I am usually a good judge of character. You couldn’t harm anyone intentionally even if you wanted too. Plus, you have alibis for each killing.”
“Listen to her. She is the best judge of character that I know.” AJ states as she walks into the room closing up her cell phone. “Jackson is running the info and will stop by when he gets anything useful.”
“Good, now why don’t you two head up and take a nap. I will let you know when he gets here.” Anna gets Erin to her feet and gently guides her over to AJ.
AJ accepts Erin’s hand and smiles at her mom. “I think that is a great idea. Sleeping in the floor was fun when I was young, but now that I am older it’s kinda hard on the body.”
Erin pats AJ on the back. “You make it sound like you are a hundred years old.”
Anna watches the way the two women walk up the stairs and she grins to herself. “I think we did good, Frank, and I think our baby has found someone to fill her heart like you did mine.” She places two fingers on her lips then points to the sky. “Love you forever.”
*******************
Erin crawls into the big bed and watches AJ undo her belt. She is unable to take her eyes away as long strong looking legs are uncovered. “You have sexy legs.”
AJ stops and looks at the blond lying on the bed behind her. “Thank you.” She finishes taking off her jeans. She doesn’t bother picking them up before she crawls up next to Erin. “Don’t you want to take yours off?”
“I don’t think that is a good idea.” Erin grabs the hand that is caressing her thigh. “Sleep is what I need. It may not be what I want, but that can wait until later.”
AJ sighs and leans in and places a soft kiss on Erin’s lips. “You’re right, let’s get some rest.”
*******************
The two only got a few hours of sleep before Anna knocks on the door letting them know Jackson was downstairs and he had some news. Not saying a word AJ pulls on her pants and follows Erin down the steps.
“What do you got buddy?” AJ takes a seat next to Erin and holds her hand.
Jackson hands AJ a brown folder loaded with papers. “I ran your sister’s name in the system. The only thing that came up was the paper work on her disappearance.”
“Okay,” Erin glances at the papers AJ is shuffling through and then back towards Jackson. “You wouldn’t have come over here with just this.” She points at the folder.
Jackson bites his bottom lip and nods. “I decided to run a description of your sister through the system.” He holds up his hands before AJ can even argue about the number of people that would pop up. “It was just a hunch and I knew that it would take hours upon hours to shift through all that data, but were grasping at straws as it is. So I figured what the hell.”
Anna walks into the room with a tray of coffee and sandwiches. “Here you go. Eat up.”
“Thanks, Mom.” AJ replies before she grabs a sandwich and starts eating. “So what do you have?”
“I don’t know what you would call it, but I just started to go through the arrest pictures and I must have only been at it for twenty minutes before I happened upon this.” He reaches down and grabs another brown folder and instead of handing it to AJ he hands it over to Erin. “I think I found your sister.”
Erin sets the folder on her lap and opens it slowly. The first thing that she sees is a picture. The person looks just like her except the eyes are not only blue, but they hold anger and hate. “When was this taken?”
“Two years after the accident.” Jackson answers. The name she gave was Lizza Grant.”
Erin shakes her head. “That is our Great Grandma’s name.” With her finger she scrolls down the paper looking for the chargers filed against her sister. “Prostitution? Battery? Attempted murder?”
“In the folder AJ has are more charges from different cases.” Jackson grabs himself a cup of coffee and a sandwich. “You sister isn’t who she used to be. Nothing can be found on her or Lizza Grant for the two years before the first arrest. It’s like she popped up out of nowhere.”
“Did anyone question her about where she came from or anything like that?” Erin questions as she scoots closer to the edge of the couch.
AJ scratches Erin’s back, “It’s not usually a question that is asked because it usually is answered with a lie.”
The small blonde rubs her face with a palm of her hand. “Makes sense.” She looks over at Jackson with pleading eyes. “Do you have any clue of where she might be?”
“No, every address she gave was a phony.” Jackson reaches for another sandwich. “I’m thinking that she lives just outside the city. Someplace private so she can be at ease as she does her thing.”
“Does her thing?” Erin stands up. “Is that an easy way of saying kill people? Is that way of saying change some families life forever?”
Jackson stops chewing and looks over to AJ who has a just as shocked look on her face. Anna quickly guides the upset woman out of the room and into the kitchen.
“What did I say?” Jackson finishes his sandwich and his coffee.
AJ gets up and smacks her partner on the back of the head. “You idiot. Do you think you could have been anymore heartless?”
“Huh?” Jackson rubs his head. “I still don’t understand.”
“Does her thing.” AJ repeats what Jackson had said. “You make it sound like a walk in the park.”
“Shit, I didn’t mean it that way.” Jackson says.
AJ pats Jackson on the shoulder. “I know and I bet Erin knows too. It’s just..”
“No need to explain. I understand.” Jackson yawns. “I think I am going to head home, kiss my wife and go to sleep.”
AJ closes the door after Jackson leaves and turns the locks. She peers out through the side window and glances down the street.
“What are you looking for?” Anna peers out the opposite side of the door.
AJ meets her mom’s eyes. “She is coming for her. Why and when I don’t know.”
“Follow what your gut tells you.” Anna hugs her daughter. “Erin is in the living room looking over the files Jackson left.”
“Thanks, Mom, I love you.” AJ gives her mom a kiss on the cheek before she heads towards the living room and Erin.

Several days pass and no new clues or new murders occur. Erin is going stir crazy not being let out of the house.
“I don’t care if the National Guard surrounds me and shoots. I need to get out of here before my brains turn to mush and leaks out of my ears.” Erin waves her hands all around before she stops and pouts. “Please.”
AJ growls, “I don’t think it is a good idea. Not only are you a wanted suspect, but a killer is after you, who just happens to be your sister.”
“I don’t care if she is out there. I need to get out before I become crazier than she is.” Erin rants and stomps her foot. “If you don’t take me I will sneak out when you are gone.”
AJ knew the agitated woman would do just that. “Fine, but at the first sign of trouble we come back home.”
Erin through herself into AJ’s arms and plants several kisses on the detectives lips and cheeks. “Than you, thank you.”
Not an hour later the two were walking down the street to the neighborhood bar.
“Time for me to meet my sister again.” A voice whispers softly from behind a tree. “First I need some insurance that dear old sister will come and meet me.” The dark figure of Erica Stokes silently moves closer to the house AJ and Erin just left from.
*******************
“That was fun.” Erin laughs as she holds AJ hand. “Thank you.”
AJ leans over and places a kiss on Erin’s cheek. “Believe me it was my pleasure.”
AJ remembers how Erin fit around her body as the two danced to several slow songs. No one around mattered but them; it was just her and the small woman who was stealing her heart.
A small rain shower doesn’t put a damper on the happy feelings. They continue to walk until they reach the front steps of Anna’s house.
Erin steps up on the first step and turns to AJ. She puts her hands on AJ shoulders. “You didn’t have to take me out tonight, even though I did threaten to sneak out and all.”
“No one should be kept hostage like you have been.” AJ lays her hands on Erin’s hips. “We will find her and stop her. Then you will be able to live your life like you want.”
“Only if you promise to help make my life more interesting.” Erin dips her head down and kisses AJ. Her tongue slips out and asks for entrance and it is given without thought.
AJ’s hands grip Erin’s waist as she brings the smaller woman closer to her body. She craves the contact and will not deprive herself any longer. “God you taste good.”
“You feel good.” Erin mumbles as she tilts her head back to let AJ continue the exploration of her neck. Her hands entwine with the dark haired woman’s hair. “You’re making me melt.”
AJ growls as she picks Erin up and hurries up the steps and presses her against the house’s front door.
“I want to make love to you.” AJ whispers into Erin’s ear.
Her answer is two hands cupping her breast and slightly squeezing them. “I want that too.”
AJ looks into Erin’s passionate green filled eyes. “You sure?”
The hands holding her breast tighten.
AJ sets Erin on the ground and reaches for her keys. She fumbles and nearly drops the keys when the hands that were playing with her breasts lets go and reaches over and begin to play with her butt. As she inserts the house key into the lock, the door opens a tiny bit. The light from the hallway spills out into the darkness.
“Step back.” AJ orders Erin before she pushes the door open with one hand and grabs her gun with the other. Slowly she pushes the door the rest of the way open. Seeing the table that usually was next to closet door broken into several pieces AJ rushes in. “MOM.”
Erin follows AJ not wanting to get in the way if the person responsible was still around. The click of the door closing made her jump and turn around. She sees a piece of paper stuck to the back of the door with a knife. Not touching the paper she reads it and gives out a yell. “AJ, she’s got her and is gonna kill her if I don’t show up.”
AJ runs out of the kitchen. “Your sister? Has my mother?”
Erin nods her head and points to the note on the door. “We have to leave now. No telling what is happening to Anna.”
“Let me call back up.” AJ reaches for her cell phone and starts to dial.
Erin quickly grabs the phone. “No, she hears the sirens and she may kill your Mom.” She sups AJ face. “I can’t let that happen.”
“You’re right, who knows what she will do, but I need to go in with more back up.” AJ takes the phone back from Erin and hits a number on her speed dial. “Jackson listen up, Erica has my Mom. I need you to bring as much ammo as you can, but I need it to be just you and me for right now. Anyone else and it may tip her off and do something drastic.”
Erin watches as AJ sets up some plans on getting her Mom free from her sister. “Not my sister any longer, my sister died several years ago. This is some lunatic that just looks like her.”
AJ who hears Erin walks up and hugs the woman. “You ready?”
Erin nods her head.

PART SEVEN
“It’s a shame that I have to kill the mother of my girlfriend.” Erika says as she paces around a tied up Anna. “I will just have to make sure I’m there constantly to console her.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Anna glares at the insane woman.
Erika kneels down and cups Anna’s face. “Don’t you see? I’m finally going to get the life that I was meant to live.” She caresses the older woman’s cheeks. “Erin will die and I’ll have her life, which is mine… always been mine.”
The hands on Anna’s face tighten and squeeze. “No way will you be able to take her life. You are nothing like her and never will be.” She looks into crazy blue eyes knowing that she is seeing someone who is not human any longer. “What happened to you?”
Erika shifts her head and smiles. “Things beyond your imagination.”
Anna sighs, as she doesn’t even want to try to imagine the things. “They have people that can help you. All you have to do is turn yourself in.”
Erika laughs as she stands up. “Nothing will help me now, but taking the life I was meant to have. Have you not been listening to me at all?” A soft beeping sound came from a small black device on Erika’s belt loop. “Looks like we have company.” She jumps for joy and walks to the door of the small room she was in. "Be right back…Mom."
*******************
“Hard to believe anyone is in there.” Erin whispers as she follows AJ into the abandon apartment building. The smell of urine alone nearly knocks the two out.
“My guess is this is where she has been all along.” AJ replies back as she sweeps her flashlight over the darken hallway. “Watch out for anything that might be a trap.”
“What? Like a boobie trap?” Erin quickly moves her own flashlight along the floor at her feet. A squeal nearly makes Erin jump out of her skin. “Watch out for rats too.”
“It only gets better and better.” AJ moans out.
“Don’t like rats I take it?” Erin grabs a hold of one of AJ’s belt loops.
AJ kicks a bottle out of her way. “Can’t stand them.”
*******************
Erika watches as the two stumble around the bottom floor before she flips a switch. “Welcome home my sweet, sweet sister.”
“Erika?” Erin calls out. “Where is Anna?”
“Why she is right up here with me.” Erika laughs. “Why don’t you come on up. We have so much to talk about.”
AJ garbs Erin’s hand and runs up the rickety stairs. They reach the fourth floor out of breath and breathing hard.
“Hello, Erin.” Erika steps out from a room behind the pair. “Been a long time.”
Erin twists around and is speechless at what she sees. Standing before her was her sister who she had thought was dead until a few weeks back. She could see that they looked pretty much alike, but the years of abuse of different kinds could clearly be seen wrecked havoc on Erika’s body.
“What no hello, or maybe even a hug.” Erika holds her arms out.
AJ rushes the woman who looks just like the woman she loves, but was stopped when Erika moves quickly back into the room. Carefully she looks in and curses when she sees Erika holding a knife to her Mom’s throat.
“You won’t leave here alive if you harm one hair on her head.” The tall detective states as she moves closer with each word. She sees the pain in her Mom’s eyes as the knife presses harder against her skin.
“Is that anyway to speak to the love of your life?” Erika twists a strand of Anna’s hair in her fingers.
“What the hell?” AJ looks from her Mom to Erika back to her Mom.
“She is going to kill me and then Erin and then she is going to replace Erin and live her life.” Anna answers.
“Shut up, you aren’t supposed to tell her.” Erika pulls Anna’s hair. “You’ve ruined it now. Now I must kill all three of you.”
“NOOOOOOO,” Erin screams and pulls out the gun AJ had given her before they left the house. She pulls the trigger before she could even think.
The room is silent except for the slow raspy breathing of the woman on the floor. Slowly Erin walks over and looks down at the woman who was once her beloved sister. “I’m sorry for whatever happened to you, but I couldn’t let you kill anyone else.”
Erika does not get a chance to say a word. She dies looking into her sister’s eyes, finally knowing peace.
AJ rushes to her Mom and unties her. “You okay?”
Anna brings a hand up to her neck. “Yes, I’m fine.” She hugs her daughter. “Knew you would get here in time.”
“Never a doubt.” AJ hold her Mom tight her arms.
Anna sees Erin standing over her sister with a still smoking gun in her limp hand. “You need to go to Erin.”
AJ turns her head. “You’ll be okay for a second?”
“I’ll be fine, she needs you now.” Anna softly answers.
Erin can’t take her eyes off of the woman on the floor. She feels a hand reach down and grasp the gun. Without thought she lets go. “I killed my sister.”
“The woman here is not who you knew or loved. She is a stranger to you.” AJ sets the gun down on the ground and guides Erin away from the body.
Jackson comes running in with his gun out. He watches AJ console Erin and moves to Anna. He notices the light trickle of blood running down her neck. “Do you need an ambulance?”
“No, it’s just a scratch.” Anna does not take her eyes away from her daughter and Erin. “You need to call this in.”
Jackson agrees and grabs his cell and dials 911.
*******************
Erin sits in the passenger seat of AJ’s car. Anna is in the backseat with her eyes closed and her head resting against the back of the seat.
“Can you take me home?” Erin continues to look out the front window.
AJ slows down for the red light up ahead. “Are you sure you should be alone right now?”
Erin wipes a single tear off her cheek. “I need some time alone.”
AJ nods and turns on her signal and heads for Erin’s house. It takes just a few minutes and they are pulling up in front of a small tan house with a white porch that wraps itself around to the side.
Erin doesn’t wait for AJ to open her door. She quickly gets out and slowly makes her way up the front walkway to her door.
Anna opens her door and then her daughters. “You should stay with her.”
AJ gets up and looks to Anna then to Erin who was looking for her keys her pants pocket. “She said she wants to be alone.”
“She may say that, but I honestly don’t think she means it.” Anna hugs her AJ. “She really needs you now.”
AJ helps her mom into the car and watches her drive away. Following the small blonde’s path, she steps up behind Erin and waits for her to realize she is behind her.
Erin inserts right key into the lock and unlocks the door. Closing her eyes she takes in the familiar smell of her own familiar domain. She knows AJ is behind her and will follow her. Suddenly she is really glad the tall detective didn’t listen to her. She waits until AJ closes the door before she turns around and collapses against the strong body she knew will hold her up and protect her.
“You’re going to be okay. I’m here for you.” AJ consoles Erin as they sit on the floor and huddle tightly together.
Several minutes later Erin leans back and looks AJ straight in the eyes. “Thank you.”
“No need to thank me,” AJ kisses Erin’s lips and caresses her tear streaked cheeks. “I love you and well Mom is the one who said I should follow you.”
“Remind me to tell her thank you then.” Erin pats AJ’s stomach. “Why don’t we get up off the floor? Would you like something to drink? I think I have some tea.”
“Sure, whatever you have is good.” AJ helps Erin to her feet and trails her into a small kitchen. She takes a seat at a two-chaired table and watches the small blonde dig around her cupboards looking for the tea and teapot.
“Looks like all I have is peppermint.” Erin says as she pours water into the old gray teapot and places it on the stove.
“That works for me.” AJ answers softly. “Why don’t you come over here and take a seat. I’ll get the tea ready when the pot goes off.”
Erin turns and rests against the counter. She glances at AJ and before she knew what she was doing she walks over and sits on the other woman’s lap. With the tips of her fingers she traces along AJ’s eyebrows down to her soft lips. “I really want to kiss you.”
AJ’s reply was her lips pressing against Erin’s eager mouth.
Erin grasps a hand full of hair in each hand. The soft silky feeling of the strands sends tingles down her spine. Her excitement is growing by leaps and bounds and even though they had decided to wait to take their relationship to the next step. She wants to take AJ up to her bedroom and make love until the sun comes up.
“Baby, if we don’t slow down I won’t be held accountable for my actions.” AJ mumbles as she kisses down Erin’s neck.
“Maybe I don’t want to stop.” Erin moans out as AJ his a sensitive spot at the base of her neck. “Maybe I want you to carry me up the stairs and help me forget all about today.”
AJ leans back to make sure she heard Erin right. “You sure?”
“More than anything.” Erin gets up and starts to unbutton her shirt while she walks to the stove to turn the burner off. “You okay with that idea?”
“Ohh yes,” AJ jumps out of her chair and picks Erin up so she can wrap her legs around her waist. “We’ll get the tea later.” She looks down and sees the swell of Erin’s breasts. “Much, much later.”
