“Do you believe what it
says?” The small blonde asked as she sat next to her lover.
Isabelle doesn’t answer as she reread what was prophesied on the day she was
born. “I have no reason not to.” She looks over at Kirra. “To give my soul means
the kingdom will survive if I don’t it means it will fall and darkness will rule
the land for centuries.”
“Bullshit, all this is a bunch of crap.” Kirra jumps up out of the chair and
grimaces as pain grips her side. “Damn it.”
“Please, don’t get mad.” Isabelle guides Kirra back to her seat.
Kirra sat back down but crosses her arms over her chest. “Why did they have to
give this to you now?” She glanced at Isabelle. “Why now. Hell you are just
recovering and don’t need this extra strain.”
The tall princess sighed, “It is tradition that it be shown on the person’s
twenty-second birthday.”
“It’s your birthday? Why didn’t you tell me?” Kirra went to stand again but was
stopped by a strong hand on her shoulder.
“My birthday was two days after I was taken by Drakes men.” Isabelle held onto
Kirra’s hand. “So please calm down.”
“You want me to calm down?” Kirra grabbed the scroll and waved it around. “This
piece of paper says that you have to basically die in order for the damn kingdom
to survive.” She tossed the scroll across the room. “I won’t let that happen. I
won’t let you sacrifice yourself.”
Isabelle closed her eyes as she listens to the love of her life storm out of the
room and down the corridor. “I don’t want to do it either, but I have to think
of everyone else’s and not just my happiness.”
^************
“You gave it to her?” King Randolph shook his head. “Why did you do that?”
“It is tradition…you know this.” The man in a dark brown robe looked at his king
in confusion.
“I was hoping to be there when she read it.” The King walked over and looked out
the window. A flock of birds flew by without a care in the world. “What happened
when she read it?”
“I was asked to leave.” The robed man said. “She was with the small blonde.”
The King nodded his head as a movement caught his eye. He sighed as he watched a
very upset Kirra head down to the stables. “Please, leave.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.” The man bowed and walked quietly out of the throne room.
“I fear this is the beginning.” The King mumbled as he thought back to the day
his daughter was born and a re-evaluation was made about the future of life, as
they all had known it.
************
“I can’t just let her give up her soul so everyone else can live happily ever
after.” Kirra kicked a bale of hay. “What about her happiness? What about her
life?”
“Kirra, why are you beating that poor bale of hay?” A scruffy looking man with a
pitchfork in his hand asked as he walked out of a stall. “Man, you look like you
could beat the hell out of an army.”
“I wish I had one to beat. I know I would feel better.” Kirra leaned back
against one of the wooden support of the stable. “How are you Conner?”
“I’m the same. It’s you that has me worried.” He placed the tool in his hand
against the stall door. “Want to tell me what has you so upset?”
“Isabelle just read the prophecy that was given when she was born.” Kirra
whispered as she looked up into warm brown eyes. “It wasn’t the best.”
“Can you tell me what it said?” Conner sat down next to his new friend.
Kirra closed her eyes and fought to hold back the tears. “She has to give her
soul in order for the kingdom to survive or darkness will fall for a long time.”
Conner bit his lower lip and nodded, “yep, that does sound pretty bad.”
“I just found her and now she is going to be taken away from me.” Kirra couldn’t
hold the tears back any longer. “I lost my best friend and now I’m going to
loose my heart.”
“All I can say is don’t let what that piece of paper says stop you from loving
Isabelle.” Conner put his hands up to stop Kirra’s out burst. “Let me finish.”
He waited until the small blonde nodded. “Sometimes things say one thing but can
mean something totally different.”
“How does ‘giving ones soul’ not mean to die, because the only way I know how to
give up your soul is to die.” Kirra slouched back against the wall, but quickly
sat back up as the pain from her healing ribs protested against the way she
moved.
“Kirra, just give it time. All will fall into place.” Conner smiled. “Go back to
her and stop being an ass.”
“I’m not being an ass,” Kirra yelled.
“You come down here pouting and madder than a pig without any mud to roll in.”
Conner stood up. “Think how the Princess must feel.”
Kirra ran her hands through her hair. “Damn.” She stood up and headed out of the
stable. She stopped at the large double doors. “Thanks, Conner.”
“Anytime kid, anytime.” The older man waved before he grabbed the pitchfork and
got back to work.
************
Isabelle walked into her bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed. She lay back
and looked up to the ceiling. “Why?”
“How are you, my Daughter?” King Randolph asked as he stood in the door.
Isabelle didn’t move. “Why must I give up my soul for the kingdom?”
The King quietly walked over to the bed. He closed his eyes, “I wish I had the
answer for you. I wish I could carry the prophecy that was bestowed upon you,
but for some reason it is you it has chosen.”
“What I don’t understand is why would it give me Kirra just so it could hurt
her. She has done nothing to deserve this.” Isabelle cried. “I don’t want to
leave her, but how else can I give my soul?”
“I’ve heard that if you pray hard enough a prophecy can be changed.” The King
said as he sat next to Isabelle. He reached for her hand and held in tight
within his strong old fingers. “Maybe we can give that a try?”
“I will do anything for a chance to stay with Kirra.” Isabelle squeezed her
hand. She knew her father was grasping at straws, but she figured it couldn’t
hurt so she began to pray.
The two sat silently in the room sending out prayer after prayer, hoping they
would be granted.
************
“Psssssssst, come here,” an evil voice growls through the darkness. “I have
something for you.”
The guard walked over to the dark corner. “What do you want? No one is supposed
to be here.”
“I’m here to set Sir Drake free.” A hand raised out of the darkness glowing like
a star in the sky. “And you are dead.” He touched the guard’s chest and waited
until the young man stopped twitching and moaning.
The man casually stepped over the dead body and removed the keys to the cells.
He waved his hand in front of each door before he stopped in from of the fourth
door. “Time for the change to begin.”
With dirty long fingers the man picked a key and unlocked the cell door. “Master
Drake, it’s me Mavic.”
“It’s about time you freak.” Drake yelled as he glares at the man. “What took
you so long?”
“I had to wait until things calmed down.” Mavic bowed slightly. “Please follow
me. I have your horse ready to take you to the hideout.”
“I want to see Isabelle first.” Drake started to walk up the stairs to the
castle.
“I think you should wait. If someone sees you before we want them to know you
are gone, would not give us enough time to get away.” Mavic grabbed Drakes
forearm.
Drake turned and glared at the older longhaired man. “Don’t you ever touch me
again.” He grabbed Mavic by the chin. “Do you understand?”
“Yes, Sir,” Mavic shivered with fear. “I was just thinking of your safety.”
Drake didn’t hear a word he said as he headed up the steps to the door. He knew
of a window that would give him a view of the courtyard and surrounding area. “I
must see her. I must figure out a way for her to realize I am the one she needs.
Not that..that…”
“Woman,” Mavic mumbled as he followed his master.
Drake growled but didn’t stop until he reached the large wooden door. “Unlock
it.”
Mavic looked through the set of keys until he found the one he needed. “Do you
want me to come with you? Or should I go to the horses?”
Drake waved him away. “Go back to the horses.”
Mavic bowed and quickly scuffled back towards the dungeon and the secret door he
used to gain entrance.
************
Kirra tucked the small bundle of flowers she had in her hand behind her back.
She walked quietly into Isabelle’s room and looked around. “Isabelle?”
Not getting an answer she headed back down the corridor and towards the kitchen.
The happy sound of her lover made a smile grow on the small blonde’s face. Not
wanting to disturb Isabelle and the cook, she stood back and watched them talk
as supper was prepared.
“What are you gonna do?” The cook asked as she kneaded some dough.
Isabelle’s shoulders slumped. “Not much I can do, Penny. What is said should be
done or life as we know it will be no more.”
“What does your heart tell you?” Penny grabbed a melt pan and dropped the dough
inside.
Isabelle sighed, “My heart fights itself. It knows what I must do and it knows
what I want to do.” She took a sip of her cider. “I need to find a way for both
to happen.”
Penny knew that if anyone could find a way through this it would be her
Princess. “How do you plan to do that?”
Isabelle stood up, “I have no clue, but I will find a way.”
The cook noticed a flick of blonde hair from the doorway. She smiled to herself
and shook her head. “Would you do me a favor?”
“Sure,” Isabelle looked into Penny’s trusting eyes. She could see a sparkle
there and wondered what was going on. “What can I do?”
“See that bucket of rubbish?” She pointed with a floury finger. “Could you toss
it out to the pigs for me?”
“No problem,” Isabelle grabbed the handle and headed out the back door to the
pigpen.
Kirra waited until Isabelle was gone before she stepped into the kitchen. “Shame
on you. Having the Princess of the Kingdom taking out your trash.” She swatted
Penny on the butt. “I think I will go save her from her life of hard labor.”
“You do that and hurry up before the flowers you have hidden start to wilt.”
Penny giggled out loud as she watched Kirra leave.
************
“This is not a job a Princess should be doing.” Kirra said as she stood behind
Isabelle. “A princess should lounge around sniffing pretty flowers her lover
gives her.”
“Well, since my lover has yet to give me flowers I am going to have to toss old
apples to the pigs.” Isabelle replied as she held up a brown apple and then
tossed it to a waiting pig.
“Guess I’ll have to rectify the no flower part.” Kirra moved so she was standing
a hair’s breathe next to the tall princess and pulled the flowers around so they
were right in front of the woman she loved.
Isabelle turned around so she was face to face with Kirra. She held the flowers
in one hand and traced soft pink lips that smiled up at her blue eyes. “I love
you.”
Kirra nodded as a shiver ran through her body. “I love you too and we will find
a way.”
“Yes, together we will.” Isabelle leaned down and began to kiss Kirra.
“Together.”
************
Drake slammed his fist into the rocky wall. The pain didn’t phase him because
the pure anger and hatred that ran through his body as he watched Isabelle and
Kirra kiss over ran all other emotions.
“You will pay for this.” He growled out. “You are mine and will always be mine.
No one will take you from me.” He spat on the ground and glared down at the two
women. “I’ll start my plan and soon you will be mine and your little slut will
be dead.”
He started back down the steps. “I’ll get the Princess and the even bigger
prize, The Kingdom.”
************
Several days passed with the King sending search parties out every few hours in
all directions, but each one coming back with no clues.
“I don’t understand it. Why aren’t they finding anything?” Kirra paced the area
in front of King Randolph’s throne. Her temper was getting the better of her.
“Those assholes need to search harder. He couldn’t have just up and
disappeared.”
“Calm done,” Isabelle wrapped her arms around Kirra. “The men are doing their
best.”
Kirra growled, “their best is not good enough.” She turned to look at the love
of her life. “They don’t know what he said to me. They don’t know how insane he
is.” She closed her eyes. “They don’t know what he would do to get you back.”
“Sweetheart, I’m not going anywhere.” Isabelle leaned down and kissed Kirra’s
cheek.
Kirra pressed her body closer to Isabelle’s. “The prophecy, along with Drake
missing, has me freaking out. Some how I get the feeling the two go together.”
The thought hit Isabelle hard and she had to sit down. “No…I never thought about
it.” She looked at Kirra. “I won’t do it. I won’t give my soul to him.” She
didn’t try to stop the tears. “I will die first.”
Kirra knelt down in front of Isabelle and grasped her hands. “Don’t ever say
that. I’ll fight to my last breath before you ever have to give up anything,
especially your soul.”
“We can’t fight it.” The tall princess stood up suddenly. “I’ve tried everything
you can think of to change the prophecy, but so far there is no sign that
anything has changed.”
Just as Kirra was about to speak the throne doors burst open and the King
stormed in. “I’m glad I found you. We have received a note from Drake with
demands that he says we have to concede to or he will destroy the Kingdom.”
Kirra helped Isabelle to her feet. “What are the demands?”
“I think you know what one of them is?” King Randolph quietly said, as he looked
his daughter in the eyes.
“He wants me.” Isabelle stated matter of fact.
The older man nodded his head and then looked over at Kirra. “He wants you as
well, and me to surrender the kingdom.
“Well,” Kirra started to pace as an idea popped into her head. “Why don’t we
give him his first demand.”
“Are you insane?” Isabelle screamed.
“Listen, I can have him think I am surrendering to him. Then when I get in there
I can stop him.” Kirra replied as she grasped Isabelle by the shoulders. “He
needs to be stopped. This will not only get us into his cam, but we can have
trackers follow and find out where he is hiding.”
“You don’t want me to give my soul for this kingdom, why should I let you put
your life in its place?” Isabelle said as tears started to run down her cheeks.
“I would rather…” She never finished her sentence because Kirra placed a loving
kiss on her lips.
“Shh, I can’t let you do that.” Kirra stepped back and looked up into upset sky
blue eyes. “Please.”
“No, I won’t loose you. That almost happened once already because of the
spineless bastard.” Isabelle traced her finger softly over Kirra’s eyebrows. “We
need to find a different way.”
Kirra could only nod her head. She glanced over to the King and he knew from the
look in her eyes that she would be setting up her plan without Isabelle’s
knowledge. He lowered his head in a knowing gesture and walked out of the room.
Kirra wrapped her arms around the tall princess and hugged her. She knew that
what she was planning on doing could either get her killed or worse, Isabelle
would never trust her again and make her leave.
************
When the sun began its daily return, Kirra slipped out of the bed. Before she
stepped away, she leaned over and placed a soft kiss against Isabelle’s
forehead. “I do this because I love you and want to protect you. I hope you can
forgive me when it’s all over with.”
Kirra dressed and walked out of the room but not before looking upon her lover
one more time. “Be back as soon as I can. Hopefully we will be able to live a
peaceful life from here on out.”
************
“My best trackers will leave an hour after you leave.” King Randolph confirmed
as he watched his daughter’s world climb up on a horse.
“Thank you,” Kirra nodded as she settled herself. She looked up at a window and
sent up a silent prayer of love.
“She is going to be very upset.” The King stated as he already dreaded facing
Isabelle. “What should I tell her?”
“Just give her this.” Kirra reached into her shirt and pulled out a folded piece
of paper. “It explains what I feel and how I couldn’t let her give up her soul.”
Randolph grasped the paper and held it tight. He patted Kirra’s leg. “Personally
I think her soul is already spoken for.”
“If it were just that easy.” Kirra nudged the horse with her heels. “Watch over
her.” She called out before she had the horse gallop faster across the courtyard
and into the grassy valley that lead towards the forest.
King Randolph watched until the figure disappeared from sight. He knew before he
turned around that Isabelle was standing behind him. “She wanted me to give you
this.” He held up the folded piece of paper.
Isabelle stepped forward. Taking the note and not saying word, she headed back
to her room to read it in peace.
************
My Dearest Princess,
I know at this moment you are really mad at me, but I had to do what I felt was
right to keep you safe. You are my heart and soul and I couldn’t sit back and
watch you agonize over this. I have to try and put an end to this so you and I
can live in peace.
You hold my heart and my soul deep within. I know they are in the safest place
in the world and you will cherish them, as I would do the same for you.
Please be safe and careful. We don’t know if Drake has friends within.
With all my love I will see you soon.
Love you,
Kirra
Don’t be to mad at your Father. He is a good man and only wants you safe like I
do.
Isabelle read the note several times before she stood up and looked out the
window. “Be safe.” She grasped the material above her heart and clenched it
tight. “You hold my heart and only you would I give my soul too.”
Unbeknownst to everyone, prayers were answered at that moment as a soul was
connected with its other half to live out a life that would rival all.
************
Kirra blinked her eyes open and looked around. Standing in front of her was
Drake and a man in a dark cloak. “See you still can’t get me without knocking me
out first.”
“Unlike the other time, you will not survive this.” Drake glared at the tied up
woman. “You have caused me to lose too much time. I should be King right now.”
He kicked at the ground, causing dirt to fall on Kirra’s face. “Isabelle will
surrender to me and she’ll be my wife. I’ll have strong strapping sons to carry
on well after I’m dead.”
“No you won’t.” Kirra shook her head to get the dirt off her face and out of her
mouth. “I’ll kill you first.”
“Don’t think so. I want you to met a friend of mine.” Drake waved Mavic over.
“This is the man who is going to make the next few days of your life miserable.”
Kirra glanced at the man and laughed. “You think a skinny squirt like him will
harm me? You have truly lost it.”
Drake gave Mavic a small nod. “Give her a small taste of what’s to come.”
Mavic pulled up one sleeve to expose a hand. Kirra’s eyes nearly bugged out as
the hand started to glow and shimmer. An intense heat surrounded her heart as
the hand drew closer and closer.
Drake smiled as he saw beads of sweat form across Kirra’s forehead. He leaned in
closer when her lips started to quiver and he waited for a scream of pain.
“STOP.. PLEASE!” Kirra screamed out as her body convulsed in pain.
Drake waved Mavic off and grasped Kirra by the hair. “You are mine and soon your
pretty slut of a princess will be too.”
Kirra worked up enough saliva and spit right in Drake’s face.
All Drake did was stand up and laugh. He patted Mavic on the back “She is all
yours now.”
Mavic rubbed his hands together. “Thank you.”
************
“I was wondering how long it would take you to sneak out here.” Conner said as
he looked up from saddling up the Princess’s horse.
Isabelle shook her head and handed the stable hand her bed roll and pack. “Like
I would really sit back and let her go off and have all the fun.”
Conner laughed as he offered to help Isabelle up into the saddle. “Hurry home.”
“I will.” The Princess patted the old man’s hand. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, Princess.” Conner bowed slightly. “Now off with ya.”
Princess Isabelle nudged her horse with her legs and soon she was off, heading
in the same direction Kirra hand gone hours earlier.
************
“What should we do?” One tracker asked as he looked at his companions. “We don’t
have the means to fight someone with powers like that.”
“We need to think of a plan and get Kirra out of there. If we don’t she will
surely be killed.” Another said in a whisper.
The four sat and watched as they tried to think of how to get to the small
blonde woman. The all cringed when Kirra’s screams filled the forest around
them.
“We can’t wait for the soldiers to get here. We need to go in there and get her
out.” Another said. “She is going to be killed.”
Several miles away Isabelle rode at a steady pace. The sudden sound of fast
approaching hoofs made her pull up and look around. Not seeing a protected place
to hide she waited.
“Guess I will find Kirra the easy way if it is a bad guy.” She mumbled as the
figure came into view. Instantly she recognized the crest on the man’s chest.
“Stop.” She yelled out and held up her hands.
The man quickly pulled up his horse. He was breathing heavy and was shocked to
see Isabelle sitting on a horse in the middle of the forest unguarded. “Your
Highness, what are you doing here?”
Isabelle just raised an eyebrow.
“Sorry,” the man sighed.
“Do you know where she is?” The Princess asked.
“Yes, but I think you should come back with me. It is to dangerous for you out
here by yourself.” The man said.
“You can go back and tell my Father what he needs to know to help, but I am
going to help Kirra.” Isabelle stated. “Tell me where I can find her.”
The man knew that it was a lost battle and why he even tried was beyond him. He
quickly gave Isabelle direction where to find Kirra and Drake. Just as he
finished, Isabelle was off as fast as she could go.
“I hope you make it, Princess.” The man quickly sped towards the castle.
************
It didn’t take Isabelle long to know she was going the right way. The hairs on
the back of her neck stood straight on end as her heart broke from the sound of
Kirra screaming out.
“Hold on, Kirra,” she tightened her hold on her reins and flew through the
bushes, dodging trees big and small. She spotted a small clearing up ahead in
knew that was where her lover was being held. Without thought she guided her
horse up and over a berry bush.
“Oh, look what we have here.” Drake stood up from his spot on the ground by a
large fire. He rubbed his hands together and smiled. “My day is just getting
better and better.”
“Where is she?” Isabelle asked as she jumped off her horse. She stormed over to
Drake and slapped him hard across the face. “Tell me now.”
Drake held a hand over his face. A small trickle of blood dripped down his chin.
An evil smile formed. “I like a woman with some fire.”
“Oh, I’ll show you fire.” Isabelle made a move to do a repeat of the slap but
Drake’s large hand stopped it in mid air.
“I do like fire, but I like it better being the flame and causing all the
damage.” Drake pulled Isabelle close to his body and lowered his head. “So are
you ready to give me your soul?”
Isabelle grinned and then without breaking eye contact brought her knee up to
Drake’s groin.
Drake’s face was calm and cool until the pain registered in his head and he
dropped to his knees. “Grab her.” He groaned out through clenched teeth.
Several men quickly grabbed Isabelle and held her still and away from the man on
the ground.
“Show me where Kirra is.” Isabelle tried to fight the hands that held her. “You
will be sorry if you have hurt her in anyway.”
Drake slowly stood up. “Your little friend is once again getting what she
deserves from me.” His grin widens when Kirra’s scream sounded out from near by.
Isabelle pulled and tugged her arms but was unsuccessful to get free. “Let me go
to her, please.”
Drake waited before he walked over to a tent and pulled back the flap. “Go
ahead.” He stuck his head in. “Mavic, we have a new guest. Make sure you show
her exactly what you are doing.”
Isabelle quickly ran into the tent. She let her eyes adjust to the darkened
tent. The sight of Kirra lying on the ground shaking and shivering in a tight
ball made Isabelle’s heart ache.
“Oh, my,” she quickly ran over and was about to touch Kirra’s arm when a voice
stopped her.
“Don’t touch her.”
Isabelle looked around and spotted the dark figure in the corner with a hood
over his head. “What have you done to her?”
“What I have been ordered to do.” Mavic replied stepping into the candlelight.
“She is stronger than most.”
“She is the strongest person I know.” Isabelle wanted to caress the sweaty face
of her lover, but stopped herself. “Please stop.”
“I cannot,” Mavic stated. “It is either her or me.”
“I don’t understand.” Isabelle asked hoping she can some way get him to stop his
torture.
“You don’t have to worry about it.” He stepped closer. “I would suggest you step
back. I wouldn’t want you to get hurt.” He waved his hand and Isabelle slid away
from Kirra. “Now let me get back to my job.”
Isabelle tried to move but the spell Mavic held on her, kept her in place. She
was powerless to stop the man. Kirra’s body tightened with pain as her skin
glowed red-hot.
“Oh God, please stop. Don’t hurt her any more.” Isabelle cried as she fought the
invisible force holding her. “Please, stop.”
Mavic heard Isabelle and wanted to stop but he knew if he didn’t do what Drake
had ordered him to do, everything he loved would die.
Tears ran down Isabelle’s face as she watched helplessly. “Whoever is listening
please save her. She is the keeper of my soul and I will gladly take her place
and feel her pain.”
Mavic heard the deep declaration of love and knew that no matter what, he had to
stop. Drake would kill his family and he would have no one but he couldn’t put
his love before anyone else.
Isabelle could feel the instant she had control of her body. She ran pasted
Mavic and dropped next to Kirra. “Why?”
“Your love for her is not anymore important than my love for my family.” He
lowered his head. “Please don’t hate me for what I have done. I only did what I
was told because Drake said he would kill my family if I didn’t follow his
orders.”
Isabelle caressed Kirra’s forehead. “I understand why.” She looked up and looked
into Mavic’s eyes. “Will she be okay?”
“If she is as strong as I think she is. Then yes, she will be fine in a few
days.” Mavic answered before he turned towards the tent flap and stepped towards
his fate.
“Wait,” Isabelle gently sat Kirra’s head on the ground. She stood up and faced
Mavic. “I can’t let you go out there knowing what I do. There has to be another
way.”
“He will be back in a few minutes and I think it is time I stand up for myself
as well as my family.” Mavic straighten his shoulders and felt the pride he has
been missing quickly fill his soul. He pulled back his hood and looked deep
within Isabelle. “Your destiny has been filled.”
“What do you mean? I must give my soul up in order for…” The soft touch of
Mavic’s finger on her lips stopped Isabelle.
“You already have.” He looked over at the silent figure on the floor. “You saved
her as well as everyone in the Kingdom.”
It hit Isabelle what Mavic meant. She started to cry, but they were tears of
pure happiness and before she or Mavic knew it, she hugged the man.
“Thank you,” Isabelle whispered.
Mavic knew exactly what she meant by those two words. He knew his family would
be proud of him and what he had done. “May the rest of your life be peaceful.”
“As I hope yours will be.” Isabelle tightened her hold before she stepped back
and watched Mavic walk out of the tent. She found a small dagger sitting in a
table and cut Kirra’s hands free. Knowing she could not lift Kirra still body,
she held her and cried.
************
“What are you doing? Is she dead?” Drake bellowed as he watched Mavic step
closer and closer. “Answer me.”
“You no longer give me orders.” Mavic raised his hands. He smiled to himself to
see the fear in the man’s eyes. “It is time for you to stop terrorizing people.”
“If you continue your family will die. I will see to it personally that they
suffer.” Drake’s whole body started to glow and shake. The pain grew with
intensity. “Stop this.”
Mavic didn’t say anything else. He just glared at Drake and watched as his body
convulsed.
All the men around the campsite grew scared as they watched their boss slowly
dying. Not wanting to end up like him, they all took off in different
directions, not stopping until they knew they were at a safe distance.
Isabelle held onto Kirra and blocked out the screams of agony coming from her
enemy outside the thin tent walls. She just hoped that Mavic was not harmed,
mentally or physically. When silence filled the tent, she knew it was over.
Drake would never bother anyone again.
************
Several days later Kirra sat on a blanket in an open field looking up at the
clouds as they silently floated by. Her thoughts were of her family that she had
lost years ago and a dear friend who would forever be safe in her heart.
“Dougie, I think you would have liked living here.” She whispered to herself.
“We would have found a family together. It would have been great.”
“Who you talking too?” Isabelle asked as she walked up to where Kirra was. “I
thought you said you would take it easy for a while.”
Kirra smiled up at Isabelle and brought her hand up in the air. The intense
feeling of love enveloped her as soon as their fingers entwined. “I am taking it
easy. I’m just watching the clouds and talking to Dougie.”
“May I join you?” Isabelle asked as she sat next to Kirra’s head. “I don’t want
to intrude.”
“You my love will never intrude. You are always welcome.” Kirra kissed the palm
of the hand she held.
“Love you,” Isabelle leaned over and placed a soft kiss on Kirra’s lips.
Kirra closed her eyes and thanked whoever brought Isabelle into her life. “I
love you as well my Queen.”
