sleepless...

stayed up late last night
mortgage, grocery bills
dental strategies
they all kept me awake
my mind whirring endlessly
until the dawn bloodied
the blinds in our room
my eyes catching the
finger of light that stretched
across the floor
touching the end of the bed
before moving up lazily

shadowy slats fell across
her body
highlighting the soft down
on her shoulder
blinding me to everything
that weighed me down
\ \ \
eyes fluttering in slumber
invited closer investigation -
I rolled to face her
trying to ignore the need
to push hair out of her eyes
her scent filled me with promise
her promise sooths me

as dawn slowly drowned the room
I slept
