This is to all the mothers out there on this special day, but most of all this is for my Mother. Her words of wisdom have kept me grounded as I've grown up. I can only hope I have become the woman she is. There is no greater woman in my eyes then my Mother, whom I love very much! With this opening statement ... Mom ... this one is just for you. ******************************* Words of Wisdom.... Words of wisdom flow from the phone lines and many miles may separate us, but not the bond we share. It is a bond a mother and daughter can only understand. Gone is the little girl you photographed so many years ago. The picture is faded and brittle with age. Your little girl is no more. Gone is the little girl but in her place is the woman I have become. Sometimes I am not much wiser then the 3 year old on the front porch of the old house, holding a bouquet of dandelions, until I hear the words of wisdom in my mind that you have given to me. The strength I have comes from within my soul, a soul only a mother like you could raise with words of wisdom.
The flowers
are wilted and the memories of that place and time are cloudy in my
mind. Only the picture and the poem remain of what once was. The old
picture is tattered and yellowed with age and still hangs on Gramma’s
wall. She found the date, June 5th 1972. Why does this photo remain one of the few memories I have of that place and time? I’ll never really know. However, it is the laughter and even the tears we have shared over the years Mom, which brings me back to the picture and the poem. Even more so, it is your words of wisdom that keeps me remembering those times. So on this Sunday I want you to know that even though I cannot be there with you on such a special day, I will look at the photo and think of the woman you are and the woman I strive to be. I hope one day I am just like you, Mom, and can share those words of wisdom as well. Tears slide down my face as I bring this to a close. The little girl is gone yet I feel her presence within me as I sit and look at the picture you took so many years ago. I love you, Mom, and all your words of wisdom! *********************** I packed and moved this last weekend. I lost the picture and poem in a box somewhere in my new place. I called my Gramma and she is sending me the poem my mother did with the photo I talk about. I was in a panic until Shadylady recalled a photo I shared with her this last winter. It is three generations of my family. For now, I ask that she post the three of us, my Gramma, my Mother and me. You can go ahead, laugh, and even poke fun at the picture. Don’t really matter to me what you see, for when I see that picture of the three of us, I see the love between three grown women! I hold these women in the highest regards for it’s their words of wisdom that make me the woman I am today! Yes, we still have those old dolls! So please remember the little girl inside of you this Sunday and think of your mother, for no matter what has happened in our lives, she brought you into this world! She will always be your mother. We may not always see eye to eye, but that’s part of life. So call up Mom and wish her Happy Mother's day! I wish everyone a Happy Mother’s day!
