Part 1

The trip to the airport was long and traffic was bad, none of it helped with Terri's mood.  She had better things to do at the ranch than pick up some friend of her boss’s. Her dog, picking up her tense mood, whined in a low-pitched voice. Not only was Terri running late to pick up her boss’s visitor, she still had to drop the feed trailer off at the mill on the way in to get their monthly supplies.

Terri muttered to herself as she found a place to park, Tamara is going to pay dearly for this one.  She realized she had less than four minutes to cover half the airport and find this woman. Annoyed because her long hair kept falling in her face, she pulled the black Stetson lower as old man winter blew a cold breath of wind into her face. She entered the terminal, her long legs covering the walkways quickly, and tried to find the gate she needed.

The plane was late so she decided to head for the main gate to wait. She hated to stand in one place too long. The cement pillar she was leaning against wasn’t all that comfortable and the longer she waited the more the tension built up. She watched as passengers disembarked from the plane; her icy blue eyes taking in everyone that passed by her vision.

Suddenly Terri’s breath caught in her throat. The woman was drop dead gorgeous. Her long, red hair was pulled back into a ponytail, but it was the eyes that caused Terri to stop. Greener than any green she had ever seen in her life. They were eyes that made one think of brilliant emeralds. Terri shook her head. Get a grip Terri.  She watched as the flaming red haired beauty moved closer.

”Terri?" the woman asked in a sultry Southern accent.

Terri nodded her head, her mouth dry, “Yes ma'am, right this way. We’ll get your bags an’ get us back on the road.” Terri tried to keep her voice steady while shaking inside. She shrugged off the feeling, burying it deep.   Shit ya ain’t even talked but a few words an’ your undies are in a bundle. Get your head outta your arse an’ forget those thoughts. Terri cursed to herself silently.

Taylor thought this was some kind of joke when she thought of why Tamara had sent this one to meet her at the airport. Tamara had given her Terri’s name but had also called her the “Reckless Rogue”, not willing to provide any other explanation. The woman in front of her had long, raven black hair, a very sexy built body supported on long muscular legs, and a temper to fit the moody blue eyes. Taylor could feel the tension radiating off Terri. This should prove to be a fun ride back to the ranch.  Taylor struggled to keep up with the long legs of the woman in front of her.

Taylor would have Terri eating out of her hand before too long from the side-glances she was getting from the tall drink of water next to her. Oh darlin’, this could be fun. Taylor smiled to herself as she walked next to Terri.

Not a word was spoken while Terri fetched Taylor’s bags, grumbling to herself the whole time. Back on I-5 heading for the feed store, the dog sat on the back seat staring over the front seat at Taylor.

Terri, is that damn ole dog going to stare at me this whole trip?”

"Might, can’t tell with her. Likes ya or hates ya, she’ll decide. I gotta stop an’ pick up the feed trailer, you hungry?" Terri's voice gave way to shaking, almost to the point of stuttering. "There’s a diner across the stre…et you could stop an’ g...et a ‘to go’ box?"

"That sounds like a plan. Flight food isn’t the best. Can I get you something?” Again that voice had Terri in a fuddle. Taylor placed her hand on Terri’s arm to stop her.

"Um, I....NO, that’s ok. Meet me back here in about twenty-five minutes,” Terri snapped a little too harshly. She pulled away from the heat of Taylor’s touch, feeling the tension slip from the second Taylor’s hand was on her arm.

There was pain buried deep in those icy blue eyes that Taylor could see through the anger. Taylor felt the pull of wanting to take the ex-rodeo rider in her arms, to hold her, and to tell her everything’s going to be ok. But the ice was back in the blue eyes as Terri pulled herself up taller and strode away. Taylor wondered how she got the nickname “Reckless Rogue”. Ice Queen would have fit better.

They had an hour to go before arriving at the ranch and Terri’s mind wandered all over the road. The red head slept peacefully on the seat beside her, a cascade of hair falling close to Terri's hand on the seat. She reached over and smoothed it out of Taylor’s face.  Reaching behind the seat she pulled out an indigo patterned blanket and flipped it out to cover Taylor. Sighing to herself she heard her cell phone ring. She checked the number and turned it off, not wanting to wake her passenger. She realized she had missed her date with Tiny...again.

Taylor had given up on getting to know Terri any better. She slid lower in the seat stretching out as far as the floorboards would let her. She felt Terri's hand gently push the stray lock of hair off her forehead sending butterflies to her stomach. That was the last thing she remembered before sleep claimed her.
